They say: Layerhome.com has teamed up with luxury home-rental destination onefinestay for this inspiring panel event, inviting three design greats to share the stories behind their established careers and offer a personal look at the designs of their own homes.

With a penchant for the avant garde and an eclectic trademark style, you’ll meet interior designer Shaun Clarkson who has led the way in the interiors industry for over twenty years. Secondly, Layer is delighted to welcome Harvard educated Dara Huang to the panel, the creative force behind international, award-winning architecture and design practice, Design Haus Liberty. Finally, hear from commodities trader turned luxury interior designer Rachel Laxer who will bring a fascinating insight into the value of investing in antiques that she applies to her loyal clientele from Silicon Valley, New York and London.

Join Layer, onefinestay and the panellists for an evening of design inspiration, sickeningly beautiful home images, stimulating discussions and a good glass of wine.

This beginners workshop will guide you through the materials and techniques required for painting on ceramics. Included in the price is a West Elm plate [ which you will be decorating ], paint and brushes which you can then take home with you after.

For those of us with green fingers or those with a love of outdoors, considering design, layout and purpose of their exterior space, whether it be a garden, land, balcony or courtyard, is just as important as indoor space design. 

Explore our capital’s gardens over a weekend in June, to discover and learn ideas on horticulture, self sufficiency, garden design and making the most of whatever space you have. Spend the weekend in London’s ‘secret gardens’ that you might not ever get to see otherwise.

Time Out say: Discover London’s secret gardens over this weekend of viewings and openings. In 2017 more than 200 gardens will unlock their gates for a weekend to take part in this annual event, held in association with the National Trust. Spanning 27 boroughs, the gardens take in all sorts of spaces, from traditional squares to roof terraces and allotments, as well as gardens belonging to historic buildings, schools, shops and cafes. 138 of the gardens taking part this year are normally closed to the public. A range of walking and cycle tours, special garden tours, family activities, art trails and poetry events will be announced closer to the weekend.

‘Drawing on the creative spirit of The New Craftsmen’s makers, A Home for All is themed around a series of domestic rituals, which you can journey through to nurture your inner maker. Whether making sourdough bread around the table or albering in.haystacks – craft and materiality combine the physical activity, encouraging a sense of community, discussion, play and imagination.’

It’s all about expanding your knowledge about interiors and home design. Time to enjoy learning from the experts with a series of lectures on interior design. Already popular in 2016. Look out for further 2017 dates at The Royal College of Art on their website. 

Following on from the huge success of the series, the Interior Design department at the RCA has confirmed the Inside/Out public lecture programme for the next academic year.The talks feature international architects, designers, curators and writers who will discuss their own practice and dissect the role of interior design. Forthcoming speakers include Andrew Stevens from London-based design consultancy Graphic Thought Facility; French industrial designer matali crasset; Roberto Feo of post-disciplinary studio El Ultimo Grito; the director of London’s Design Museum, Deyan Sudjic; Alannah Western, former Creative Director of Selfridges and now Deputy Chairman of Selfridges Group; the leading British interior designer Ben Kelly; the visionary architect and designer Gaetano Pesce; the Senior Curator of Architecture and Design at the Museum of Modern Art Paolo Antonelli; Christophe Egret of architecture and urban design practice Studio Egret West; the renowned sculptor Richard Wentworth; and the architect David Chipperfield.

The Design Museum, London is a great place to be inspired and get the creative juices flowing, and this up coming exhibition is no exeption. Breathing Colour explores how we use colour and how it behaves through shapes, materials, shadows and reflections.

‘Drawing on years of research, designer Hella Jongerius presents Breathing Colour; an installation-based exhibition that takes a deeper look at the way colour behaves, exploring shapes, materials, shadows and reflections. Through a series of phenomenological studies and experiences, the exhibition will make us question one of thr most elemental aspects of design.’
