IKEA always manage to create something new and exciting with their collections. One to watch out for this April is INDUSTRIELL – a rustic, industrial, raw take on everyday furniture and accessories. With dining chairs and benches to pendant lights and cushions this collection is gorgeous.

‘Created in collaboration with acclaimed Dutch designer Piet Hein Eek, the INDUSTRIELL collection is our way of turning mass-produced uniformity into products that have a beautifully imperfect handmade quality that you can see, touch and feel’

Piet Hein Eek is renowned for creating beautiful furniture from salvaged materials, embracing imperfections and unfinished surfaces, and his same ethos has been used in the collection.

Our favourites are the woven armchair [ £120] made from recycled paper and bamboo pendant lights [ from £22 ]

There’s a gorgeous colour effect to bring into your home – ombre.

This beautiful colour haze can be introduced to a current colour scheme if you match the colour.

To create the ombre look pick one or two pieces eg. Cushions and curtains, in an ombre pattern fabric and then colour the rest of the interior in block colours of shades of the ombre tone.

If you’re feeling bold use ombre for a wall paper – a strong look – then collate other homewares in the same colour – this rich look would look great if using one of the popular jewel tones; currently an on trend colour palette that’s across homeware stores on the high street and online.

Wood and wood finishes are always going to be popular in the home, whether you are a fan of oak, walnut, mango or birch. This year we see a big increase in dark woods appearing in stores through furniture, lighting and accessories.

Using dark wood in the home will bring a richness and cosiness that lighter woods don’t do as well. Compliment with rich Blue, Green and Red shades for a truly lux feel.

A room in the house where dark wood are becoming a trend is the kitchen. Brown almost black cabinets combined with lighter tones on worktops and accessories gives a layered and cohesive look.

Using dark wood doesn’t mean the whole room has to go dark, if that’s not your thing. Brilliant white and paler shades will really set off the wood tones of tables, chairs and lighting.

We have picked some of our favourites to start off this look.

There’s a whiff of Spring in the air, if you aren’t still trudging over snow, so it’s definitely a good time for projects that create great pieces for the garden. Anything to help make that perfect outdoor living area to enjoy in the warmer months.

We found two great outdoor rug DIYs from two of our favourite creative maker blogs – A Beautiful Mess and Apartmenttherapy .

The first from ABM is a great, fun project, weaving your own rug from scrap fabric and finishing with a protective spray.

The second from ApartmentTherapy is a stylish idea to make an outdoor rug with waterproof fabric and then create a design on it waterproof acrylic paint.
