home: trend [ top 5 of 2019 ]

Looking back over the year we have seen a lot of trends come and go but some have stuck, and we look forward to seeing what 2020 brings.

We have picked our top 5 trends of 2019, the ones that have had big influences on the high street and the ones we have loved to dip into.

Terracotta

A colour which has had its moments over the last few decades, particular in the 90’s when everyone was trying colour washes and paint effects. This year we saw it was back with block colour on furniture and soft furnishings.

A great colour to being warmth into a room and a lovely time to use for accessorising a space.

Slogan

Who doesn’t love a slogan! This trend moved from fashion into homeware early this year and has been bringing us laughter and empowerment through fun works and phrases.

Everyone needs a slogan cushion in their lives. Other popular choices were mugs & plates. Slogans and typography is sticking around and will always have a place in our homes.

Pumped up

This trend has really filtered down to the high Street after being featured in a lot of interior magazines as a must have design.

Wide armchairs, deep sofas and oversized proportions were the only requirements, and we loved it. Perfect for the second half of this year, where we are always ready cosy up in front of the TV.

Pick your furniture carefully and it will last and not date. Mix this style with other looks to keep it fresh.

Jewel tones

Glassware is no longer boring. If you are looking to update your collection, then go for something colourful. Jewel tones have been big this year and we are both fans of this.

Lots of stores have jumped on the back of this look, and there are loads to choose from. Mix and match the colours and styles for a vintage style.

Matt finishes

In contrast to the brightly coloured glass we have just mentioned there was a more sutbtle, calming trenda making an appearance this year.

For those that like your home’s fuss free and minimal, matt finishes were everywhere, and still are. Kitchen fronts, wardrobes and table tops are the most popular choices, in black and green shades, but also ceramics and accessories were being finished in matt for an alternative to glazed or glass.

For beautiful, calming interiors, with soft colours and a minimal feel, the new ‘Japandi’ trend is one to fall in love with.

Across the highstreet stores are embracing the essence of the trend and there’s a lot of products to easily create the look.

Choose soft tones, a few simple accessories, mix dark and light woods, light grey, greens and choose pieces that combine the essence of scandi and Japanese styling.

Heals say;

There’s a new interior design trend in town – introducing ‘Japandi’: a hybrid of traditional Japanese minimalism and Scandinavian decor. Also known as ‘japanordic’, this fresh style has been deemed the biggest new design movement for 2018. Combining the modern-rustic appeal of Scandi style with the traditional sophistication that’s associated with Japanese design, it’s no wonder that it’s a growing favourite amongst designers.
