home: trend [ denim blue ]

Not so long ago we talked about using blue in the home, and going into Autumn we are still talking about it.

This time the focus is on denim blue and much paler, washout examples.

This can be found on a lot of ceramics and furniture, with blue becoming more popular in glassware too as an alternative to smoked grey or Amber, which we have seen a lot of in recent years.

Be Bold with a blue sofa or armchair. or tone it down by just using some cushions to accessorise.

A bright and airy space lends itself to denim blue, but if your room is darker then go for a more rich royal or navy blue.

They say;

Merci is a place created in March 2009 in the heart of the historic district of Haut-Marais. Bernard and Marie-France Cohen, founders of BONPOINT the children’s fashion label, realized that Paris lacked a place which would bring together the best of the world of fashion, of design, of household goods with welcome refreshment areas.

A business established in the heart of its region and of its country, Merci has already created more than 70 permanent jobs. Merci is, moreover, very pleased to act as a developer or launch-pad to the young designers who, thanks to this sounding-board, can make themselves known to the many customers and international personalities who visit Merci.

Merci is a commercial enterprise “like any other company” founded by shareholders “unlike any other shareholders”. The founders decided that the proceeds of this investment would serve to fund an endowment paying  for educational projects and development in south-west Madagascar.
Bernard and Marie France Cohen wanted to say MERCI to life, MERCI to the talents and to the designers who made this success possible. It is this success which makes their generosity possible.

In 2013, Marie-France Cohen passed on the torch

The current Merci team has kept up the commitment and the founders’ original dream by contributing year on year to the foundation.

‘The Staatliches Bauhaus, commonly known as the Bauhaus, was a German art school operational from 1919 to 1933 that combined crafts and the fine arts, and was famous for the approach to design that it publicized and taught. The Bauhaus was founded by Walter Gropius in Weimar.

Its a strong look with colour and line and can be styled quite sparce or detailed and still achieve that confident Bauhaus feeling.

Create with block colour and simple pattern of the era and furniture which creates lines and forms.

Search eBay and other auctions and fairs for true pieces or head to the high street for modern versions and creations. You don’t have to look far with current high street brands to find pieces indicative of the style and design.

Keep walls and floors plain with detail in the fixtures and furniture. There’s a strong emphasis on smoked grey glass, mirrored surfaces, mat colour and keep a space light and airy. Architecture would have favoured high wide glazing and open plan living – popular and on trend in today’s building work.
