At this time of year the focus on interior decoration can change to the garden, and one of the best places to get inspiration is at a flower show, and there are no better shows than Chelsea and Hampton Court.

The two RHS events are here this summer during May and July.
The Chelsea flower show runs from 24th – 28th May and there are still tickets available. Alternatively wait for Hampton court [ 5th – 10th July ].

Back for it’s seventh year, Clerkenwell Design Week runs over three days and is full of exibitions, workshops and talks. See some of the best furniture, lighting and product design from the UK and globally.

‘Clerkenwell is home to more creative businesses and architects per square mile than anywhere else on the planet, making it truly one of the most important design hubs in the world. To celebrate this rich and diverse community, Clerkenwell Design Week has created a showcase of leading UK and international brands and companies presented in a series of showroom events,  exhibitions and special installations that take place across the area.’

Get creative on the 22nd or 23rd May by joining ceramic artists Fliff Carr and Matilda Moreton at Town House, Spitalfields, making unique floral decorated plates inspired by 18th century botanical prints.
Learn how to create impressions in clay and apply colour, as well as using a variety of textured floral fabrics, lace and rubber stamps to decorate.

Sessions last 45 minutes and cost £10, including all materials and firing [ Extra cost for plates to be sent to you, but you can collect free of charge two weeks later ].

The Barbican in London is a fascinating and wonderful place to walk around on any day, but when they have a great exhibition it makes the trip all the more worth while.
The Barbican Exhibition: Designing for a Living City is a new exhibition tracing the controversial design of the 1970s residential development – explore the range of flat types and interiors which would accommodate some 6000 people within 35 acres. The display includes the original 1971 residential layout and landscape plan, as well as original fittings, archival illustrations, leaflets, brochures and films.
A must for any Barbican fan, and those interest in architecture and interior design of the past. Plus after, take some time to explore the building, visit the conservatory, take a tour or browse the shop.

West Elm continue to support and give opportunities for new designers, and up and coming brands to get a platform to raise their profile. Here again they have cool, unique brand Refunk’d popping up shop in April at their Tottenham Court Road, London store. 

Running from 15-17th of April, head to West Elm and shop the one-off pieces of furniture and homeware.
