La Redoute have a good track record in having gorgeous designs in their rug department that are very popular with customers and with the reasonable prices (and regular discount codes) there’s always a good reason to update a room with a new rug.

We love the  cool and stylish Noga Flat Woven Kilim Rug which is £359.00 for the  largest size of 200 x 290cm.

The two smaller sizes are currently out of stock but it’s never long before they’re back in stock. But now is the time to go big – make an impact with the largest size and take advantage of 20% off with code EXTRA20

A great way to freshen up a room and at the same time make a statement is to update an item which would perhaps usually be hidden. The majority of radiators in peoples homes are painted white or perhaps painted to blend in with the wall colour, but this shouldn’t be the case.

Explore some options, whether it’s covering it or painting, turn it into something you want to look at rather than something you don’t.

When glasses get outdated or worn through repeated washing it’s time to find some new ones.

So you don’t have to feel guilty about spending to much money, we found these sets of 4 tumblers from Made.com

The sets come in various colour combinations but we think the rich dark tonal colours set is perfect for winter and would look great for the Christmas table.

First impressions are important and so is the entrance to your home. Doormats are usually an essential item which until recent years were pretty boring. Now stores are doing fun slogan and more colourful versions. But instead of having something others may have, why don’t you design your own. Still as popular as ever is typography, using words like ‘hello’, ‘welcome’, ‘hey ya’ whatever you want. Keep it monochrome or stencil your mat with colour.

With a basic doormat [ try ikea.com or homebase.com ], cardboard stencil and waterproof paint or permanent marker you are ready to go. This simple idea takes no time at all, and we have some tutorials to help.

Sometimes all you need is a simple and well designed item for the home, forgot the fuss and the frou frou.

A brand which does this perfectly is Block; a product design company with an online store focusing on office and desk items all designed for maximum practicality and style, with a colour pallete that is bright and playful.

The minimalist website fits with the product giving a choice of four categories – Deskware, Homeware, Pegboards and Blog. The product range isn’t huge but that’s ok, and you know each item has been designed and produced in house resulting in a more refined item. Our favourites include the coat racks and pegboards.

Keep up to date with Block by dipping into their blog and follow on Instagram & Twitter.

There are some gorgeous hand painted items available at the moment, from floral plates to polka dot mugs. The idea is so simple it’s worth giving it a go yourself.

Get hold of some basic white tableware [ try Ikea ] and then decide what look you want to achieve. Go monochrome and use a black pen to create a dot or stripe effect, or bring colour using paints [ dishwasher safe ] to make swirls, floral designs or a geometric pattern. Be as creative as you want, whatever works within your home.

We love a fun DIY project with great results. Produce and making your own homeware is satisfying, rewarding, often cheaper than buying the item and also a good way to update something old or plain.

We found some great tutorials at DIY Network for making and designing rugs for your home. There’s a great selection of different projects to achieve varying looks depending on your style or needs.

There’s also a great selection of tutorials at ArchitectureArtDesigns too

Many of the projects use old T-shirts, scraps of wool or fabric, or plain rugs which can be picked up cheaply and many highstreet homeware stores.
