Connecting well to the current Eastern interiors trend (featured on Friday), we love this exhibition at the V&A – Lustrous Surfaces.

Featuring 110 objects located throughout the Museum, including shrines, chests and rare Latin American examples, this display highlights the varied manufacturing techniques, surface treatments, decorative styles and application around the world.

This free exhibition runs til September.

Inspired by interiors of the orient, this eastern trend is chic and now with a modernised edge.

Layer up intricate patterns of flowers, birds and illustrations on cushions and other soft furnishings. Keep the colour palette rich but muted tones.

Although busy with pattern and design ensure some larger areas – a wall or two, the rug or the sofa colour is paler and less fussy. Add accessories in lacquered black to add a contrast and richness to the scheme, with flashes of gold and iridescent pearl tones in lighting, ceramics and picture framing.

Another great trend for spring/summer is Exotic. A bright and vibrant trend full of print and texture. The main elements will come from the soft furnishings – floral and heavily patterned cushions, throws and rugs. Pile up cushions for depth on sofas and beds, with a statement rug as a focus in the middle of the room.
Accessories like bowls, vases and statement lighting help pull this look together. [ Check out West Elm ]
Wooden furniture, especially bamboo sit in this eastern influenced trend. Low units and tables work best in medium and dark woods.
Colours to consider are green, orange and purple with accents of gold and bronze, with texture coming from woven baskets and ceramics.
