Another summer where we see bold wallpapers as a strong trend with floral, geometric and tropical patterns appearing most popular in designs.
These bold papers can be worked in two main styling methods. Either in a minimally styled room with no clutter, few accessories and just using the busy, bold wallpaper on one wall; or embracing a more complicated, layered look that uses multiple patterns and colours on purpose with excess accessories to create a bohemian, eclectic strong look.
(Above : Cole + Son Hicks Grand / SelectWallpaper £76 • Graham + Brown Colourful Geometric / House of Fraser reduced to £48 )
Big bold geometric patterns can be a modern or retro look. They sit well with clean white paint work and furniture as well as light woods like oak, beech or teak.

Mixing tropical and floral patterns is a beautiful strong idea. Colour match the colour tones but mix and match the flower patterns, size of illustrations and continue through cushions, curtains, throws and other accessories to bring together a vibrant look to excite the senses.
This is probably the most simple project we have featured. There are only three steps to create this cool plant stand, made from the wire frame of a lampshade.
Step one: Choose the shade size you want [ make sure the frame connects at the top and bottom ]. Pick one with an interesting shape and perhaps choose a few in different sizes.
Step two: Remove the fabric shade & cut off any excess parts you don’t need using wire cutters.
Step three: Spray the frame whatever colour you like and then ta da…its done!
We think these plant stands look best in black or white for a monochrome finish. But of course the choice is yours.
Looking for a different take on the hanging grid frame? We have found it. Rather than the usual design, this hanging frame is made up of two poles connected to a simple house shape, taking inspiration from architecture.
Available from The Den & Now it’s made from recycled paper and metal and has so many uses. Perfect for hanging notes in the kitchen or office, or use it to display photos in a living room or bedroom.
We are definitely added this to our shopping list.
Found on the historic Roman Road, East London we find Corey Homeware. Opened in 2015,this boutique homeware and furniture store has a lovely, constantly changing curated selection of pieces sourced from the UK and further a field.
We love their eye for unique pieces with both a modern and industrial edge.
They say, ‘The idea behind the shop is to offer a treasure trove of modern design at realistic prices. I am a local resident with a passion for interiors. Originally working as a teacher, I spent years being frustrated at the lack of affordable homeware. Each weekend would see a trip to seek out interior shops across the capital only to be disappointed by the choice and shocked by the price. I felt so strongly about it that I decided to put my passion into practice and open my own homeware shop right on my doorstep.’
July is upon us, so get the diary out and start penciling in some great events. We have found some to keep your weekends busy and they can all be found at outlet district Hackney Walk. During July they are hosting Hackney Garden; a selection of plant inspired workshops, including bouquet arranging [ That Flower Shop ], candle making [ Earl Of East ] and terrarium building [ Grace & Thorn ]. Whilst you are there hang out after on the Darkroom designed deckchairs and enjoy food and drink.
Also popping up this month is the fab Rockett St George with their first London warehouse sale [ 15th July ]. Full of seconds, samples and ex display, with up to 70% off! Be sure to get there early so as not to be dissapointed.
The Urban Outfitters sale is a great place to get hugely discounted homeware and furniture. Often full of unique on-trend pieces to update the home.
Their rugs are always great designs and quality.
We found this large natural jute rug with a little dash of colour reduced from £120 to £60.
‘Rounded area rug with a colourful border made of sustainable natural jute…… Woven from jute plant fibres that are super durable – perfect for a covered patio, entry way or high traffic area.’
It will always be a firm favourite with interior fans and designers; the industrial look is really accessible and is great mix with other trends including Mid Century and Scandi and of course you can bring in any paint colours you like.
This year it’s having a resergence in online stores with more and more choices for you to bring the industrial look to your home.
The key materials for this look are brushed metals, concrete, cork and wood. Exposed bulbs instead of using lamp shades, and wire and mess shelving units bring the look together. It’s very simple to achieve and you can go as far as you like with it.
