We love a new season with lots of new arrivals hitting the stores. A favourite of ours spotted this week is from Rockett St George. Their Soho Ceramics range of vases and planters is the perfect addition to any home. The 70’s colours will bring warmth to a room and the paint dipped finish creates texture and pattern. A quirky addition is that all the ceramics are named after streets in Soho, London.
This season give your home a modern retro colourful pop of colour with the 60s trend. Stores are filling with midcentury silhouettes in furniture, great retro patterns in wallpaper, fabrics and cushions and those immediately indentifiable colours associated with the swinging decade of the 60s.
Use teals, mustards and burnt oranges but soften with fresh white or creams to balance the palette. Make angles curved and woods light and layer up block colours with pops of great wild pattern.
High street stores have plenty this season to work for this trend but it’s great to mix in the original pieces – hunt for vintage furniture – a statement dresser or sideboard, track down original samples of fabric to make cushions from and browse antique markets and fairs for ceramics and ornaments to enrich the look.
We have all seen appliqué used on soft furnishings but quite often we see examples using florals or animals which can tend to look dated. To bring the appliqué technique up to date how about using typography. Personalise a cushion with an initial or make a statement with a slogan or phrase.

A clear fact is we all need lighting in our homes, and with so much choice sometimes we can all do with a bit of inspiration. When you consider all the options; floor lamp, table lamp, desk lamp, ceiling light or wall light and then whether you prefer a pendant style, chandelier, lamps with a shade, exposed bulbs, multiple bulbs etc, it’s a continuous dilema.
This year it’s the focus is on retro lighting, so if nothing else consider a throwback to previous decades when making your choice.
Brass and copper feature heavily in current lighting options combined with enamel of the 50s, ornate glass of the 70s and art deco designs of the 20s.
If you do fancy going retro then you need to make a statement with a unique design. Try a multi arm ceiling light [ pic 5 ] giving flexibility to lighting a room or how about a classic Poul Henningsen tiered pendant light [ pic 2 ]. A design that still looks as good today as it did 80 years ago.

We love this modern, clean design for curtain tie backs spotted on an online interiors group via Pinterest. With the use of the raw wood beads it’s a very Scandinavian look but the beads could be stained, sprayed, painted or patterned to suit your interior look.
A simple easy project which will need; strong cord/string or wire for threading beads, wooden beads (available from many outlets including Hobbycraft and eBay, paint, spray or varnish (unless you want to keep the beauty of the natural wood, pliers, and hooks for the wall.
Thread the wooden beads onto the string or wire to the create a chosen length. The length will depend on how tight you want your curtains to sit back against the wall (smaller the length, the tighter the curtain will bunch up). Create a loop on each end of the wire/string to be able to simply loop onto your wall mounted hooks. Think about ensuring the wall hooks sit well against or match the beads well.
This would work well for heavy weight curtains or billowing thin voile curtains too.
