home: trend [ colour your personality ]

Everyone has a favourite colour, maybe a couple, but that doesn’t mean you will paint your whole home in it. With this in mind there are theories that colours can be drawn from our personality, whether it’s a strong flamboyant pink or a calming understated beige.

On the blog today we look at the three main personality traits that translate into our home style; CONFIDENT, COMPOSED and COMFORTABLE and the big colours that we will be seeing alot of in 2017.

Confident: Creative social types drawn to attention grabbing dusky blues, green and bright yellow.

Bring a statement to a room with bold colour throughout. If you like this then you are probably someone who embraces change and likes the energy colour brings. You don’t hold back and you are brave with your choices.

Composed: Traditionalist looking to create a contemporary space with earthy greens, grey and auqa blue.

For someone who likes a calming space and takes time to create a well curated room. The wall colours become a backdrop enabling more colour to layer upon. Nuetral tones are a favourite for this person – bright colours arent as important – yet gorgeous spaces can be created.

Comfortable: Introverted types who like muted shades of pink, yellow and blue. Subtle tones for beginners of an accent colour in their home.

Colour is a risk sometimes, and those that don’t want to go for brights feel happier opting with pastel tones, playing down the intensity a stronger colour can bring. Using these softer colours on furniture for pops of colour against a white or pale grey wall is a sophisticated look.

All in all this is a bit of fun to help pick your next wall colour, but there is something to be said for how we choose colours for our home. Personality definitely plays a factor and it’s not always about following trends, but how you feel happy to adapt them to suit you.

Happy decorating in 2017!

With a nod to our favourite style providers, the Scandinavians, these wooden beaded towel holders are simple to make and look great in a bathroom or kitchen.

This simple tutorial from SpoonForkBacon is easy to follow and can be adapted in size and colour depending on your interior preference. Beads and the leather straps can be ordered online from a craft supplier or there is plenty of choice on eBay, and then you just need a length of pliable wire that is slim enough to fit through the holes in the beads. The wooden beads can be dyed, varnished or stained to which ever colour suits the room.

This great project could be made large for bath towels, great in a kitchen for a tea towel or other areas in the home could look lovely as a decorative feature.

With less than six weeks to go until Christmas day we all need to start thinking about our yearly decorations dilema. Do we re-use last years, treat ourselves to some new additions or perhaps a complete overhaul is needed.

Whatever the decision now is a great time to start buying, and a favourite shop of ours is Paperchase. With a huge variety of styles from colourful animals to traditional nativity scenes there is something for everyone, and currently there is a 3 for 2 offer on selected hanging decorations  [ from £3 each ]

Popular mid century and often of Scandinavian design, raised planter tables or units have a resurgence in popularity indoors or outdoors.

This wooden unit from La Redoute is a simple design in acacia wood with a large planting area and lower shelf and would look great in a kitchen, hallway or other room filled with house plants. It would also be great and useful if planted with herbs for cooking.

Also suitable for outdoors it has a lower shelf for extra storage and is a decent height to work at, tending your plants.

The boho trend in interiors is broad ; with colour and styles – but the layering and the type of fabrics or patterns is always key. Look for deep colour palette in weaves and wall hangings, hand crafted woods, worn leather, kilim and ikat patterns, lace, crochet and paisley.

It should be an effortless look that evolves and can be built on, with it benefiting from nik naks, flea market finds, homeware from world travel, heirlooms and collectables.

home: made [ printed doormat ]

First impressions are important and so is the entrance to your home. Doormats are usually an essential item which until recent years were pretty boring. Now stores are doing fun slogan and more colourful versions. But instead of having something others may have, why don’t you design your own. Still as popular as ever is typography, using words like ‘hello’, ‘welcome’, ‘hey ya’ whatever you want. Keep it monochrome or stencil your mat with colour.

With a basic doormat [ try ikea.com or homebase.com ], cardboard stencil and waterproof paint or permanent marker you are ready to go. This simple idea takes no time at all, and we have some tutorials to help.
