home: made [ Christmas table ]

If you are hosting Christmas and want a showstoping table to impress your guests, then today we share some amazing inspiration and ideas to do just that.

We have collected some of our favourite images from idealhome.co.uk and amara.com to get you in the mood for getting creative.

First thing is to decide if you want to go for simplicity or maxamlist as well as a possible colour scheme. Don’t worry about matching it to yout room, it’s Christmas!

Think about the number of guests and how much glassware, cutlery and plates you will need. These don’t all have to be on the table at once, but it is nice to have everything available for your guests.

Depending on if you have a round or rectagular table you will need to consider a centrepiece. On a round table go tall in the middle with a few differnet pieces, or on a rectugular table have a longer centrepiece running down the middle, and if you have space try a hanging decoration above to compliment.

Build the table up with your items, keeping everything evenly spread, so everyone gets to see your design. Also a nice touch for your guests is to peronalise something, maybe a napkin ring, a cracker or a simple name card in the middle of their plate tied to some foliage cuttings.

Head to the links above for more ideas and tips on creating a wonderful Christmas table.

We love a well designed chair, especially when it comes in various colour options. The Whistler dining chair from John Lewis with its polypropylene shell and upholstered seat pad looks great and gives a nod to old stackable school chairs from the 80s.

Mix and match the colours, or mix with other styles of chair around your dining table. The other bonus is that these chairs are only £99 each!

A reminder for the diary. Our favourite interiors haunt is closing for development to make it even better!

Say farewell to the current Geffrye Museum over the weekend of Epiphany, with a variety of entertainment and things to enjoy!

6 + 7 January

They say;

Visit us for Christmas Past and come to our Epiphany Celebration and Closing Party on the weekend of 6 and 7 January to enjoy street food, winter cocktails and live music as we say farewell to Christmas and to the museum, which will close on 7 January for almost two years for our exciting £18m development project, Unlocking the Geffrye. Although the main museum building and period gardens will be closed, there will still be plenty of reasons to come to the Geffrye. Throughout closure we will run a busy programme of events, activities and installations in our front gardens. The restored almshouse will also be open for tours on certain dates throughout the year.

So you’ll need to buy a frame but finding a cool piece of art work for just a fiver is an incredible find. Hunting through the new home products at House of Fraser we find this gorgeous wrapping paper (3 metres for £5) that is so perfect it needs to be framed. Make a statement – find a great big frame (try the largest size in Ribba frame from Ikea or head to Desenio and pick one of their skinny profile frames) and cut the paper to size.

The pattern, the colour – it’s all on trend and would be perfect as a focus piece of art in a lounge or bedroom.

To ensure the paper stays smooth and flat, hunt out your local picture framers and ask them to ‘dry mount’ the paper to a board (this can cost around £20 for a 60×80 size piece)
