As with many trends they tend to drop in and out of taste, and this is true of wood tones in the home. We have seen a lot of lighter woods over the last year or so with mango and acacia being popular choices. Next year it’s the return of dark timbers, creating a richer interior.

Whether it’s tables, cabinets, wardrobes or bed frames it needs to be dark. everything from walnut vaneer to dark stains and even burnt finishes.

Combining dark units with a dark floor

Creating a dark room isn’t for everyone, so consider where it will be most effective in your home. In a kitchen matching tones on units and floor sit great against a plain white wall. In a living room have a couple of key pieces of furniture, perhaps a coffee table and an armchair, keeping the soft furnishings light as a contrast, and of course introduce some colour.

If you really want to make a statement why not try a wood effect wallpaper. Burnt wood paneling looks great, especially in a smaller space. Create a moody feel or keep it fresh, this trend can adapt to all tastes, go as far as you want with it.

For those who want the antithesis of monochrome interiors and prefer a richer more opulent look then using jewel tones for interiors can give a warm, rich, homely and welcoming feel to a home.

A variety of jewel tones, including turquoise, teal, jade, ruby and burgundy can compliment each other and work well in a room together – but also varying shades of the same colour can be very effective and impactful.

Currently other on-trend colours including navy and copper sit very well with this colour palette and act well to set off the rich tones.

We love going bold with this trend and including floors, woodwork, furniture as well as soft furnishings all in the colour palette. Using high street brand Habitat paint is perfect as it works on both walls and wood to ensure matching colours throughout. And for fabrics opt for velvet, cord and satin to compliment the trend.

Historically, and in present day, Danish design is at the forefront in aesthetics, materials and style.

We love how designs from the last century are as popular now as ever; and reproductions, official copies, modernised versions and inevitably scandalous rip-offs are everywhere, offering a range of prices to the consumer  who loves a particular style.

Firm favourite Cult Furniture have a virtual and actual store bursting at the seams with modern models of incredible furniture from the last century.

Our favourite find is the Hans J Wegner CH25 chair, with its curves and contours, it’s a beautiful edition to an interior.

”Danish design is undoubtedly timeless and adds a touch of sophistication and charm to any space. The Hans J Wegner CH25 chair is no exception!

Designed in 1950 by ‘the king of chairs’ Hans Wegner, reproduced by Cult Furniture for modern homes today. The CH25 chair is crafted from high-quality materials and will look great in any space. Think of a laid-back lounge, living room or timeless hotel.

The Hans J Wegner CH25 chair features a curved wooden frame available in a variety of colours. The woven seat is available in natural or black cord.”
