We all buy and collect items for our homes that we love, but sometimes trying to create a specific style or look through different rooms can be difficult. This year a big trend is to go eclectic and have an ‘anything goes’ moto.
Mix different materials and textures together, old and new, soft nuetral tones with bright pops of colour.
With furniture look at combining a modern unit sat next to something more vintage – mid century style furniture works great.
Pick strong geometric or digital printed cushions or throws and mix with a traditional Egyptian rug.
To achieve this look you don’t have to worry too much about what you are placing where, it’s very much about dressing your rooms without rules.

Mix different chairs around a dining table, this way you get to have all the styles you like on one space, whether plastic, wooden or metal.
[ Use this same thinking when entertaining by mixing different printed plates and bowls so everybody gets a different combination ].

This trend is all about embracing various styles and playing with old and new. Sit industrial next to ornate and rustic next to minimal. Find the balance that works for you. Of course this look isn’t about a cluttered collection of pieces, it’s about cleverly pairing different styles in selected areas of a room.

We love a slow mooch around a museum shop, but usually only when we have been to a particular exhibition.
This shouldn’t be the case and we should treat them as actual shops, considering the majority of our museums and galleries are free. Also take advantage of the online museum shops, especially if your looking for books.
A good design book can not only give informative text and pictures, but they usually always look nice – something you want to have out on display.
We had a look at the Design Museum website and found a great selection of books for interiors lovers. Use the menu to navigate the particular topic like Product Design or Architecture and find some inspiring coffee table books to dip into at any time.
Another great museum shop for books is the Barbican with fascinating reads including titles exploring concrete architecture and suburbia life.

So next time you are looking for a gift or an inspiring read for yourself, head to a museum shop, you won’t be disappointed.

Seek time away from the busy hectic technical world we daily live in, by creating a natural sanctuary in your own home with the Urban Wild trend.

This trend heals and soothes. Interiors that embrace this trend are as close to getting outdoors and enjoying the wild as you can get living in the big city.

Combine natural colours and textures. In furniture, floors and walls use woods, aged stone, polished stone, wicker and metal to give a natural but industrial edge. For soft furnishings seek out leather, knit, cashmere, linen and even velvet. Combine soft and hard materials like goat hide for seating with metal structures for the bases, and layer up furs and fluffiness in rugs against polished grey slate flooring.

For walls choose soft natural chalky tones to keep the look soft and blended. Craig & Rose give a great insight to using chalky paints and Annie Sloan has a great range of colours.

We have a bit of an obsession with chairs, and always looking out for new designs or classic reproductions. We think the Hee Chair from HAY is one of those chairs that just oozes style packaged within a very simple but clever design. Perfect for indoor and outdoor use.

‘The philosophy behind the Hee Chair was to take an archetypal chair and perfect it down to the last detail while cutting the expression to the minimum. The goal was to create a contemporary chair that would fit into a wide range of contexts. The attempt was successful, and the Hee series is a pragmatic and easily decoded chair series. Like a line drawing, it wraps metre after metre of metal wire into neat, straight lines in three versions: bar stool, lounge chair and dining chair.

The metal wire is electro-galvanized before it is lacquered, which makes it rust-resistant and perfect for outdoor use. The chairs can be linked together in rows for conference use, and the new colour scheme keeps the Hee chairs updated.’
