home: trend [ geometrics ]

We have seen this trend before and geometric patterns are always going to appeal, but this time the focus turns away from soft furnishings like cushions and rugs and more about wallpapers, tiles and art.

We are spoilt for choice when it comes to tiles and whether it’s for the bathroom, kitchen or floor we can create bold patterns and experiment with colour. Create a focal point with a vinyl floor in a kitchen, leaving the walls a plain colour or maybe it’s a patterned wallpaper that takes your fancy, to act as a statement backdrop to the rest of the room.

A great way to introduce pattern into a room is with art. Choose a select few pieces to bring interest to a wall. Whatever you do be brave and embrace geometrics.

Head to John Lewis for a new look for the home. If you love bright colours, we’ve collated our favourite current pieces currently in-store and online.

A colourful look is great with a retro twist. Stick with hues that are similar shades of a few bright colours, with turquoise, burnt orange and red for a midcentury twist. Keep sofas, armchairs or other main furniture pieces in statement plain bright colours and opt for patterns in home accessories. Look for quirky additions like the John Lewis ‘On Air‘ light box and mix fun patterns like geometric and block printing in curtains, throws and cushions.

home: trend [ floral x geo ]

Last year we saw a lot of floral and tropical prints on soft furnishings and in art, as well as geometric pattern continuing to be a popular choice. This year sees the two prints combined creating a clashing mix of colour, pattern and style.

Larger more bold florals are appearing on wallpapers and bed linens. Layer this up with geometric soft furnishings and accessories.

Cole & Son Ardmore collection
A great place to start is with a statement wallpaper, combined with plain furniture and then accessorized with geo pattern. Fill the walls with art, either more floral or geo inspired. The more it clashes the better.

Brass and copper tones work great when considering smaller pieces of furniture. A glass or marble topped coffee table or side table will help bring this trend together. Its very over the top and works best with darker interiors.

Cole & Son Miami wallpaper
You can go big, or small with this trend. Keep it more subtle on bedding or perhaps a couple of floral cushions on a sofa combined with a geometric rug for example.

Shelving can bring so much to a room, giving extra dimension and interest to a plain wall. With so many options it’s sometimes hard to pick something that will work. A style we love is the floating box shelf, created simply from four pieces of wood. This style can be adapted in many shapes including hexagon or house designs. You can adapt the shelving to your needs whether it’s shallow shelves for ornaments or deeper ones for books and plants.
