This trend is all about metalic finishes and reflective surfaces. Create a space where light and colour bounces around the room through key pieces of furniture and accessories.

Look at coloured glass, mirror and high gloss marble finishes on table tops and shelving alongside warm metals like brass and gold. An obvious start to get this look is with a large mirror, and there are some great designs available in stores mixing different shapes and finishes so no need to be traditional.

Black and green marble give a subtle reflective surface and this works best on coffee tables and shelving, bringing interest and decoration at the same time. For some fantastic table and trolley selections that fit this look perfectly visit rockettstgeorge.co.ukmiafleur.com and roseandgrey.co.uk.
Another way to bring this look into your home is through soft furnishings like cushions. A copper or gold shiny finish can give a reflective quality and bring together the look [ oliverbonas.com have a new range of cushion which look fab ]. Finally accessories like vases and candle holders are a great way to bring a shelf or table to life, the shinier the better.

home: trend [ jewel tones ]

For those who want the antithesis of monochrome interiors and prefer a richer more opulent look then using jewel tones for interiors can give a warm, rich, homely and welcoming feel to a home.

A variety of jewel tones, including turquoise, teal, jade, ruby and burgundy can compliment each other and work well in a room together – but also varying shades of the same colour can be very effective and impactful.

Currently other on-trend colours including navy and copper sit very well with this colour palette and act well to set off the rich tones.

We love going bold with this trend and including floors, woodwork, furniture as well as soft furnishings all in the colour palette. Using high street brand Habitat paint is perfect as it works on both walls and wood to ensure matching colours throughout. And for fabrics opt for velvet, cord and satin to compliment the trend.

If you aren’t familiar with Rockett St George by now, then you should be. Whether you are a fan or a just a lover of exciting interiors then you should head to Liberty department store and see the cool, extraordinary, and flamboyant array of items in the flesh.

Up until now RSG has been primarily online based since 2007, growing a massive following and celebrity fans. Set up by Jane Rockett & Lucy St George, the company has grown with its vast online shop, a number of pop up events and talks hosted by the the ladies themselves. Now is the time RSG can reach the masses with its 5 month residence at Liberty, London.

Taking over a large space on the fourth floor set around a stunning atrium RSG have created zones, each one a different area of the house / garden, individualy capturing the essence of the brand with its eclectic, quirky, fun feel.

Wander through ‘GARDEN’ and you are greeted by an abundance of faux plants and tropical birds, hanging concrete pots and gorgeous lighting. If you don’t fancy a faux bird how about a gnome ornament or candle or how about the fab hanging monkey light.
Head though to ‘LIGHTING’ and ‘KITCHEN’ with a strong industrial feel; brass and chrome pendant lights, glass dome lamps and retro light cords blend into black wood chopping boards, marble patterned ceramics and gold accessories. [ Don’t miss the giant safety pins and gorgeous animal hooks assortment ]

Keep walking at you hit ‘BOUDOIR’ with amazing scented candles, quirky lotion bottles and slogan make-up bags. The key background colour throughout the brand is black, and believe it or not it actually works. This strong identity really stands out amongst other online stores and it translates perfectly into Liberty with all the walls painted matt black.

Soft furnishings and wallpaper is next and here you will find an array of fabulous lip and eye printed cushions, sheepskin rugs and some stunning wallpapers including wood paneling, ivy wall, and marble tiles.

The final areas of this vast space are ‘OFFICE’ and ‘LIVING’ which includes a  favourite of ours ‘COCKTAIL CORNER’!

The office set up has a picture wall to beat all picture walls, full of neon slogan lights and framed artwork. RSG has some great in-house products including their slogan notebooks…and of course they are black.

The great thing about this pop-up is every bit of furniture, every light, every piece of wall decor is possible to buy. Take it straight from the shop floor or order from the website.

Go glam with fun monkey candle holders and black & gold faux plants. There are some fantastic finds to make your dining room come alive and be the envy of your friends. Our favourites include skull bowls and beakers, and the honeycomb candle voltives.

There is a strong tropical feel throughout the space with palm tree lights and pineapple ornaments, perfect for creating your own cocktail corner at home. All in all RSG has created an amazing shop bringing something new to Liberty. Get along before the end of January and fall in love with everything.

Gone are the days when you simply put a mirror up in your bathroom, bedroom or hallway just for it’s practical purpose. Mirrors in the home now are seen as design statements and decorative objects.
The variety of designs available in stores and online offer you a great selection to choose from.
We’ve picked some of the popular on trend styles and our favourites.
One of the biggest trends this year is bringing mixed metal finishes on mirror frames – copper, brass and gold – often with a strong industrial feel. Rounded edge square and rectangular mirrors work great in achieving this look.
Another popular choice is the round hanging mirror. Get the simple scandinavian feel with the mix of wood and leather.

Bring colour and texture into your room with a bright frame or subtle blocks of metallic and pastels. The popular geometric trend continues to grow and works really well in mirrors – we love the ferm living wonder mirror, combining a hexagonal design with different woods, doubling up as a shelf for displaying objects.
Mirrors don’t always need to be flat either. Go bold with a 3D inspired design, bringing a strong focal point to a living room or bedroom.

6. Shelf mirror / fermliving.com [ £199 ]
7. Round mirror / johnlewis.com [ £150 ]
8. Round mirror / habitat.co.uk [ £45 ]

Get a vintage look with a hanging art deco inspired mirror. Rather than going for a modern feel with leather or rope hanging element, pick a thin delicate chain. This combined with a more ornate shape will give a strong decorative statement.
For a bigger statement go for a retro sunburst mirror. This popular mid century design is having a resurgence in homes and works really well in a modern inspired room. The gold or brass finish sits really well with dark walls of grey or navy.
With wooden framed mirrors avoid light colours and opt for dark wood veneers like walnut or mango.
