We are getting geared up for Autumn and with that comes cosy nights in with comfy cushions and fluffy throws. Tactile homeware is everywhere right now and today we share some of our favourites.

Velvet continues to be the fabric of choice this year on chairs and sofas, along with cushions. Now we are seeing velvet on lighting and lampshades like the ceiling pendant pictured from Rockett St George. [ there is also a table lamp version ]

Layer your room with tassled, fringed and pom pom cushions, throws and rugs. The more layers the better. When we look at colours for Autumn we are seeing lots creams, terracotta, red and grey. This is a lovely pallete to work with and perfect for the season.

It seems the home accessory of the season is the pouffe. Firmly back as a key piece of furniture in a lounge (or any other room) and with floral flouncy ones a distant memory of the 80s; the pouffe is now the perfect accessory to add a splash of colour or pop of pattern into a room.

There’s a plethora to choose from across the high street, designer and online stores and whatever trend you use as your styling guide, there’s a pouffe to suit the look.

We’ve picked a selection of our favourites to suit current trends including – colour pop, embellished, midcentury monochrome, maximalist, traveller and artisan.

Plants, plants, plants; the urban gardener is still as popular as ever.

Bring the outdoors in with leaf ceramics – add a dash of retro, and you get this great plate from HM. There’s a definite vintage inspiration.

It would look great on a dinner party table or use for nicknacks on a dressing table.

Inspired by interiors of the orient, this eastern trend is chic and now with a modernised edge.

Layer up intricate patterns of flowers, birds and illustrations on cushions and other soft furnishings. Keep the colour palette rich but muted tones.

Although busy with pattern and design ensure some larger areas – a wall or two, the rug or the sofa colour is paler and less fussy. Add accessories in lacquered black to add a contrast and richness to the scheme, with flashes of gold and iridescent pearl tones in lighting, ceramics and picture framing.

The herringbone trend has had a rise in popularity during the last couple of years, although it’s never ever really been out of favour.

It’s a classic look, a design-minded pattern and now this herringbone format has found new places to feature, not just floors and walls in wood or ceramic, but also cupboard fronts, kitchen doors, table tops and the pattern even transfers into fabrics and of course has always been a knitting pattern – thriving at the moment for throws and cushions.

All the richness, all the luxury, wrapped up in one colour – indigo. This dark shade is currently best on mass to make a super rich feel to an interior. Embrace wall colour, rugs and soft furnishings to create the strongest look with small metallic, blush or other rich jewel tone highlights.

For a lighter look match indigo with clean white, to lift and brighten a room. Use rich blue tones on walls and furniture, but use white for floors, ceilings and in patterns on the soft furnishings.

home: trend [ midcentury monochrome ]

The angles, the curves, the familiar silhouette of midcentury design sits so well with a monochrome interior. A little hint of walnut tones is all you need to soften the monochrome look.

Across the high street there are so many homewares and furniture embracing the style and designs from the midcentury era.

It’s easy to create this trend from modern stores but also it’s a great excuse to explore vintage markets, auctions and antiques fairs. Look for designs from brands including Ercol (furniture), Midwinter and Meakin that have some beautiful design and great monochrome pieces (ceramics).

Use vintage vases, lamps and plates for decorative display to compliment the look.
