A big trend we are seeing this year and in particular this Summer, is natural finishes.

This stripped back look can be seen on tables, chairs, lighting & mirrors. Of course you probably don’t want to deck out your whole room in eveything pale wood, but just a few of these pieces will mix well together.

If you like a neutral colour pallete or earthy tones are your thing, this is where you can have the most fun. In a dining room a natural finished wooden dining table and chairs can look amazing against a dark green wall or black kitchen cabinets.

In a living room a wooden lampshade can be a lovely addition. The light is often softened and it will certainly be a focal point.

If you choose items that are also untreated then you have the option of painting them at a later date. There are so many great colour choices available.

Head to themerrythought.com to be inspired to make this fab desk. Using an Ikea drawer unit as a base with the addition of a wooden table top and a pair of legs, you are good to go.

Obviously you will need to have some basic woodwork skills or at least know someone that has to complete this project, but it’s a great one.

We love the use of the drawer unit, it looks like it was meant to be part of the table and more expensive than it would actually be.

Beautiful built furniture from the Cotswold Company can be browsed on their website. So many incredible pieces of furniture and our favourite is this oak Appleby Oak sideboard

They say;

Sometimes, you don’t want to hide everything away out of sight. Less a sideboard and more a display cabinet, this fine piece of furniture is glazed on three sides so it’s ideal for showing off and protecting your precious collectables. Crafted from solid oak and high quality oak veneers, and finished with a durable clear lacquer to keep it looking its rustic best, it has a double cupboard and a single cupboard – each with a single shelf – to help you organise things neatly.

This last year has seen a massive resergence in 70s inspired rattan furniture. A boho feel, with a relaxed vibe was seen everywhere, and is still very much a popular choice.

This year we are seeing a lot more woven furniture incorporating Japanese influences. The pale wood tones are being mixed with black for a more striking look. This can be seen on cabinets and screens, again with Japanese influences.

The fine weave we are seeing creates a lovely pattern and texture on table tops and door fronts, perfect for a statement piece. Don’t go overboard with this, as the more stripped back the better. Let the furniture do the talking, so just invest in one or two items to tie into your space.
