One of the most popular accessories for the home over the last six months has to be the terrarium. Bringing some plantlife in to the home in the form of a mini greenhouse. Terrariums come in all shapes and sizes with the basic idea that the plants / cacti sit in a glass bowl or vessel, with the most popular recently being geometric shaped [ look at Oliver Bonas ].

Instead of buying one already done, why not give it a go yourself and plant up your very handmade terrarium. Simply get hold of the glass vessel, this can be anything from a small round bowl to a larger hanging version, a selection of plants, stones, and soil. You can buy kits that give you everything you need if you want to make things easier [ Geo-Fleur have a great starter kit ].

Have fun when creating your terranium, use coloured stones or sand or perhaps add in some fun animal ornaments.

home: daily [ Mini Moderns Event ]

Last week we were fortunate enough to be invited to the launch of not one, but four new product ranges from Mini Moderns. Hosted at the Geffrye Museum in Hoxton the celebration called ‘Sunday Night /Sunday Morning’ was a chance for us to get up close to a new enamel kitchenware range, a fragrance collection, new kitchen textiles and some quite brilliant wallpapers.

As we chatted to the creators Mark & Kieth about the products, with a rather good Gin Fizz cocktail in hand, we could see their passion and excitement for the new ranges, and you won’t be disappointed.

In collaboration with Wild & Wolf and using the most popular pattern from their range Mini Moderns has launched ‘Whitby‘ through an enamel kitchenware collection with pieces including cups, jugs, tins with bamboo lids and a stove kettle. We can see why the fresh blue and white pattern is so popular, bringing the seaside feel to any home.

Mini Moderns has built up a strong portfolio of striking retro and modern prints through wallpaperceramics, and more recently window films. Added to this is now a fragrance range including candles and diffusers created with KMI Brands.

Pick from three candle scents; Pavilion [ ginfizz ], Whitby [ sea spray ] and Darjeeling [ tea ]. The beautifully packaged candles are in a glass vessel with the relevant print on the side, and have a burn time of 50hrs. [ available now ]

Alongside these larger candles their will be diffusers in the same scents and a four pack selection of mini candles in holders in a gorgeous gift box. These will be available gradually towards the end of the year, a perfect gift for Christmas.

Mini Moderns have done a number of collaborations in the past and this new product range of kitchen textiles is with Ulster Weavers, taking a selection of items including aprons, oven gloves and tea towels and putting their stamp on them. Using popular prints Paisley CrescentPavilionBackgammon and Darjeeling you can mix and match patterns and colour ways [ yellow, orange and teal ] to get your perfect combination.

We are sure these will be a winner, the quality is great and the packaging is spot on.

Wallpaper is something Mini Moderns excels in, with some amazing designs, and continuing with their ethos of every pattern having a story they have created three new prints.

One Day‘ features different windows with iconic scenes from television dramas from the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s. This fun print comes in orange, green, mustard and washed denim. [ available now ]

Taking a step in a slightly different direction is another range named ‘Homework’. The two designs are inspired by school textbooks; Maths and Physics. We love the simplicity and we are sure they will be a sell out. The final new design is called ‘Starling’ and is a take on star constalations but with a quirky addition of using a starling to replace the star. These wallpapers will be available in the Autumn.

All in all the new ranges are an exciting edition to Mini Moderns already established collection – a mixture of existing patterns on new products and some wonderful new patterns.

There is a pop-up shop currently at the Geffrye Museum until 14th August displaying Mini Moderns current ranges with some background information on the story behind the brand. Head to the museum to take a look, or go to minimoderns.com. Keep your eye out the new pieces by following their Instagram and twitter feeds.

We love the nomad trend and it translates so well into blankets, throws, bedding, curtains, cushions and more so well.

We discovered this great brand Bohzaar and think they have a great range of soft furnishings in nomad patterns in a great variety of colours to suit any interior.

The blankets are beautiful and at only £59 are a steal for such a large size

home: trend [ natural tones ]

This year the home takes on a natural tone with creams, stone and woods. Create a calming, no fuss space which is clean, yet cosy. With a colour palette of nuetral creams, greys and browns there is little that can go wrong when creating this look.

Focus on soft furnishings like throws and cushions to enhance a sofa or chair, making sure you go for textured fabrics to bring a different element to all the muted colours. With furniture Mid Century and Scandinavian influences work the best, strong design with a great use of wood and fabric, especially leather.

When decorating your room, look at two possible options. Firstly paint the wall a pale cream or grey and accent the space with white furniture and accessories or reverse the look with all white walls, bringing in the addition of other tones in everything else. What’s nice with this trend is that you don’t necessarily have to stick to 2/3 colours, use as many as you like. Look at the palette below.

Design fans and interior stylists will always look to Scandinavian design for inspiration and ideas.

Our recommended brand, Skandivis, brings together all the best designers from Scandinavia – creating an online store where you can create whole looks for a room from any selection of items. Pieces co-ordinate and blend perfectly for all rooms of the house including the kids rooms. Their incredible range of Mrs Mighetto art prints would be beautiful in a nursery or children’s room but happily grown up enough for you too.

The store stocks brands including Playtype, Moebe, Miniwalla, Design Letters, By Nord and Ferm Living.

We highly recommend their print selection as well as the variety of ways they have to hang and frame the great mix of illustrations, typographical prints and botanical prints.
