It gets quite dark and opulent-gothic this autumn with bringing dark berry into home interiors. Layering up tones of this shade – think burgundy, port, rose, grape and other deep rich berry-like shades create a warm, inviting interior to see you into colder months.

Keep the look modern with matt tones and matt fabrics, use along side dark woods and allow textures of wool, leather and velvet to work together.

Think to use shades all the way from floor to walls to window covering to give strength to the look and pop in other jewel tones if want the odd highlight to break up the colour.

home: trend [ Art Deco ]

Following on from the beginning of this year Art deco inspired interiors are still big. Introducing this 1920s look into your home will bring glamour and opulence, wether a small corner or a whole room.

You can hint at this trend or go full on, but be careful not to over indulge as you don’t want it to look themed or staged. This look focuses mainly on two key areas, pattern and furniture, with bold gold designs set against black and rich blue backgrounds on wallpapers and art.

Mural from muralswallpaper.co.uk

The furniture comes in the form of drinks trolleys and statement armchairs. A good place to start is with a classic round trolley with marble shelves, a design that mixes straight lines and circles, very much echoing the strong print designs of the Art Deco era.

Combine this with a statement chair – velvet is a must – with brass or gold legs and you will have the perfect start to the look. Keep the walls dark to create more drama with dark green, blues and of course black.

Accessories to consider would be classic angled mirrors and perhaps a quirky lamp influenced by the 1920s. As well as this you could continue the feel with soft furnishings like a fringed pillow [ pictured ].

Forget the high tech gadgets, forget the plugged in paraphernalia, switch off all devices and embrace the santuary trend.

It’s all about creating a natural, calm, serene environment to allow you to switch off, and for your over stimulated senses to have a break from work, stress, busy lives and hectic schedules.

What better trend to bring in to your home?

Using soft tones of colour, mainly neutrals and white, natural fibres and simple accessories including a happy abundance of indoor planting as this will increase the potential of your calm space.

Create seating or bed cocoons with comfort and relaxation in mind. Layer up cushions and throws in soft fabrics, avoiding pattern or bright colours. Use voile or lace on windows to have privacy but allow plenty of natural light.

We have seen many shades of pink throughout 2017 and it seems to still be in high demand. A shade of pink that is not going away anytime soon is Blush. A popular choice for those wanting to introduce colour into a room but maybe afraid to go too bright. It doesn’t matter which room – living, bedroom or kitchen – blush can feature everywhere.

Ceramics from roseandgrey.co.uk

The blush shade works best when on chairs and soft furnishings with tactile materials like velvet and soft linen. Whether your room is a light neutral space or dark and moody, a blush statement chair will fit perfectly. It compliments colours grey and green really well,  as well as materials like brass, copper, gold and dark woods.

Add touches of blush with cushions and accessories. Find interesting patterns and quirky designs to inject fun into your home.

home: trend [ desert ]

home: trend [ desert ]

We are needing a retreat, a place of calm and perhaps an interior that makes us think of warmer climates, holidays and miles of endless sands.

The desert trend back for 2017, with the surge in popularity of succulents and cacti still growing (happy plants we generally succeed in not killing!) is a strong easy look to pull together in a home. High street (and designer) stores have plenty of natural homewares, products that look as if they’ve been gathered from travels and craft inspired goods.

Use bright light interiors and bring in leathers, weaves, wood and tapestry. Search vintage fairs for large patterned rugs or head to highstreet stores including Urban Outfitters, La Redoute and House Doctor for new versions. The current Summer sales are perfect to pick up large items that work with this trend – suede sofas and leather armchairs and with the good weather explore markets and carboots, and thrift unusual items, pottery and trinkets to build the look.

Stick to neutral colours, dark and light but throw in a little colour in an odd chair or patterned cushion. Essentially use indoor planting for fresh green tones that will set off well against the tans, beiges, whites, creams and other neutral tones – with highlights of gold and bronze.

Get creative and work on your own DIY projects for accessories – macrame pot holders, woven hangings for the wall and block print canvases leaning casually against the side.

If you are accessorizing your rooms this Summer, be sure to feature something woven. Its all about the texture and detail.

Consider potted plants in woven baskets and bags, heavy woven cushion covers [ think macrame ] and jute rugs. Adding these pieces into a room will bring an artisan / handmade feel and soften a space.

If you want to make more of a statement choose a woven light fitting [ There are some stunning picks online – try grahamandgreen.co.uk & rockettstgeorge.co.uk ]. Woven chairs are big this season as well, like bold rattan furniture but focusing on a smaller weave.

home: trend [ industrialism ]

It will always be a firm favourite with interior fans and designers; the industrial look is really accessible and is great mix with other trends including Mid Century and Scandi and of course you can bring in any paint colours you like.

This year it’s having a resergence in online stores with more and more choices for you to bring the industrial look to your home.

The key materials for this look are brushed metals, concrete, cork and wood. Exposed bulbs instead of using lamp shades, and wire and mess shelving units bring the look together. It’s very simple to achieve and you can go as far as you like with it.

home: trend [ watercolour ]

Take a romantic journey with print and patterns this Summer when watercolours take centre stage. Look out for bed linen, rugs, soft furnishings and art prints in gorgeous blended colours.

Structured and modern art is replaced by the relaxing fluidity of watercolour. Mix in framed prints to a picture wall to update a room, or add a rug to a living room to bring a subtle statement.

This trend is great for everyone, go bold with vibrant colours of red, blues, yellows and greens. Keep it more muted with soft tones; a popular choice now is blue and green with everything in between. And even if you are a monochrome fan, you can still have a bit of watercolour in your home.

home: trend [ dark kitchens ]

In between the love for white minimal and Scandinavian pops of colour, the strong trend for dark tones within the kitchen is a beautiful stylish style direction to head in.

Choosing between dark cabinets, counters, wall tiling, floor covering or all of the above creates a deep rich interior – a modern look for a home.

Ikea // dark kitchen cabinet doors

Bringing together a lot of dark tones (greys and blacks) is a bold move but it pays off. Although high lighting with colour or white is also a great look. Intersperse dark cabinets with white tiling or use a paler paint or  flooring to soften the darkness.
