It gets quite dark and opulent-gothic this autumn with bringing dark berry into home interiors. Layering up tones of this shade – think burgundy, port, rose, grape and other deep rich berry-like shades create a warm, inviting interior to see you into colder months.

Keep the look modern with matt tones and matt fabrics, use along side dark woods and allow textures of wool, leather and velvet to work together.

Think to use shades all the way from floor to walls to window covering to give strength to the look and pop in other jewel tones if want the odd highlight to break up the colour.

Since there’s the odd day with a chill in the air and autumn is on its way, we are looking for warmth and thinking ahead to cosy nights in. Plus to make the most of the last summer nights, keep throws handy with outdoor furniture to ensure you can stay outside for longer.

Ikea has these perfect VARKRAGE throws at just £4 each. They are machine washable and available in grey or blue.

We have been waiting a long time for this collaboration. And if you don’t know about it, here is the lowdown.

Launching in October Swedish giant Ikea has joined forces with Danish brand Hay to create the new Ypperlig collection. Featuring furniture, vases, throws and accessories the Ypperlig collection has been designed to ‘challenge people’s perception of Ikea quality and design’

New redesign of Ikea Frakta bag

Hay has also taken on the challenge of redesigning the iconic blue & yellow Frakta bag. The size & shape has remained, with new colours including the green & white version pictured. Hay wanted to turn the bag into a ‘design object’ that customers appreciate.

We love the simplicity and muted colours of the collection, with strong design that will fit into any room. As Ikea says ‘a contemporary yet ageless collection’

Keep an eye out in store and online during October / ikea.com

Forget the high tech gadgets, forget the plugged in paraphernalia, switch off all devices and embrace the santuary trend.

It’s all about creating a natural, calm, serene environment to allow you to switch off, and for your over stimulated senses to have a break from work, stress, busy lives and hectic schedules.

What better trend to bring in to your home?

Using soft tones of colour, mainly neutrals and white, natural fibres and simple accessories including a happy abundance of indoor planting as this will increase the potential of your calm space.

Create seating or bed cocoons with comfort and relaxation in mind. Layer up cushions and throws in soft fabrics, avoiding pattern or bright colours. Use voile or lace on windows to have privacy but allow plenty of natural light.
