home: event [ another year of great interiors ]

Here we are reaching the end of 2016 and we are celebrating both a cracking year for design and vision for homes and interior design but also the support and following of many great people who seem to appreciate our daily bite sized features.

It’s another great year for design across all departments, updates and new twists on trends we’ve seen before, new emerging brands and designers, and high street stores constantly surprisinging us with designs led style but at affordable prices.

We look ahead to finding new trends in 2017, giving us reasons to bring out the paint brushes and create new looks, getting to know the new brands at next year’s Design Festival and new collaborations with brands we love.

We’ll be sure to offer more great giveaways, the latest in interiors news and constantly listen to what you’d like to hear about and include everything that we can, as well as be ever grateful to your support, likes and shares.

[another] home:blog wishes you a very Happy Christmas and all the best for an exciting new year!

Sometimes you don’t need to spend too much or visit the top interiors stores to find key on-trend homewares to update your home. Stylish products, great quality and irresistible pricing is what you’ll find in high street favourite Wilkos. If you think you can just pick up toiletries, hardware and bargains for the garden, you’d be mistaken – there’s a broad range of homeware and furniture, available both in store and online.

We had a browse and selected some favourite pieces which would create a great new simple modern look for a lounge including table lighting (from £15), soft knitted grey throws (£22), patterned rugs (from £40) and great industrial style ceiling lights (from £12). They stock a good broad range of paint colours, also, so a complete room make over is easy to achieve.

There’s even still time to order and receive before Christmas so if you’re still in need of table decorations. Christmas homewares or kitchenware then head over for a great choice at great prices

We love London based, Batch One natural candles (£20) which come in three gorgeous scents; Wild Fig, Silver Birch + Black Pepper and Sandalwood + Amber.

With around 40 hours burn time it’s excellent value at £20.

Update a lounge, study or any room in need of a stylish lounge chair with the Hemming Swivel Armchair from West Elm. It covers the cleanness of the minimal trend, has a great geometric diamond pattern fabric covering and it’s form is a nod towards vintage Danish midcentury chic. It is superb design, stream lined, with high back, low seat and winged arms.

Sit it in a monochrome interior perfectly or make a colour block statement using it against a back drop of a bright wall colour or pop a bright cushion on it, toreally stand  out!

We love a fun DIY project with great results. Produce and making your own homeware is satisfying, rewarding, often cheaper than buying the item and also a good way to update something old or plain.

We found some great tutorials at DIY Network for making and designing rugs for your home. There’s a great selection of different projects to achieve varying looks depending on your style or needs.

There’s also a great selection of tutorials at ArchitectureArtDesigns too

Many of the projects use old T-shirts, scraps of wool or fabric, or plain rugs which can be picked up cheaply and many highstreet homeware stores.

There’s so much to love and admire about West Elm. They are a brand, with a conscience, focused on honesty and sustainability. Both on in the virtual and physical stores there is a wealth of incredible design, styling and interiors inspiration and guidance. West Elm can make a home – a real home; a blended, co-ordinated but eclectic, homely but chic, environment.

Their huge array of homewares and furniture is spot on both in design, quality and although high end of the price scale – it’s worth it. Plus, when there’s a sale, which currently there is (with up to 60% off) it’s a good time to invest in a few updates for your home or even a whole overhaul of a room.

The style is midcentury modern, mixed with bohemian and a little industrial. They create ‘looks’ that can be strong trends or ideas that can bring a subtle new trend into a home.

We found our top favourite pieces in the sale (see picture) but explore the sale yourself for great discounts in every department.

One of the best sales in the homeware and accessories market is from Anthropologie. And it’s on now!

Anthropologie is an Alladins Cave of homeware delights. It cleverly collates a beautiful range of textures, patterns and bohemian and vintage trends with a broad price range. This ensures theirs something for everyone to bring beautiful design into their homes.

The sale is therefore a gold mine of bargains with huge discounts across all departments including kitchenalia, ceramics, lighting, soft furnishings, furniture, ornaments and books. With often over half price being offered on some lines we recommend exploring the sale in store or online from the comfort of your home.

It’s the perfect sale for buying small details to enhance your home and interiors; new handles for cupboards and doors, vases and glassware to create an impact on a shelf, cutlery to bring a new look to the dinner table or great interiors books both to look good on the coffee table and to inspire with great design ideas.
