September is almost upon us and everyone seems to get that ‘back to school’ feeling and that feeling for change and something new.

With all that’s ‘New In’ at Swoon there’s plenty to get inspired by and enough gorgeous homeware and furniture to create a whole new look for a room.

Beautiful rich jewel colours, great quality wooden furniture and lots of hints of gold on side tables and lamps to add that metallic hint.

There’s also plenty to be browsed in the clearance department.

Love this great little DIY from A Pair And A Spare to make handy (and on trend) little concrete desk organisers.

It’s a simple and straight forward tutorial and can be adapted for your needs – just change the size or shape of the moulds.

Follow the great blog for other fab diy homeware ideas and projects.

A date for the diary if you want to give a new lease of life to old crockery. Get creative at these up cycling workshops at Heals. Book in for one of the two available September dates via Eventbrite

They say;

Give life to your vintage china in our upcycling class at Heals. First choose a pre-loved plate or teacup from The Indytute’s very special vintage china collection. Each piece has been rooted out by the Indytute china scout, who has scoured garage sales, antique stalls and junk shops to select the ideal pieces to upcycle. The idea of this workshop is to give you plate a new lease of life and turn it into a work of art you might spot in Harvey Nics. These plates make great presents and they also make a shelf very happy

Ikea has teamed up with Sonos to create the SYMFONISK collection. There are currently two products available – a speaker lamp and a speaker shelf.

‘Combining the best of our two worlds we make high-quality sound affordable and available – and create products neither of us would be able to come up with on our own’

Find at;

111 Boulevard Beaumarchais

75003 Paris

They say;

Merci is a place created in March 2009 in the heart of the historic district of Haut-Marais. Bernard and Marie-France Cohen, founders of BONPOINT the children’s fashion label, realized that Paris lacked a place which would bring together the best of the world of fashion, of design, of household goods with welcome refreshment areas.

A business established in the heart of its region and of its country, Merci has already created more than 70 permanent jobs. Merci is, moreover, very pleased to act as a developer or launch-pad to the young designers who, thanks to this sounding-board, can make themselves known to the many customers and international personalities who visit Merci.

Merci is a commercial enterprise “like any other company” founded by shareholders “unlike any other shareholders”. The founders decided that the proceeds of this investment would serve to fund an endowment paying  for educational projects and development in south-west Madagascar.
Bernard and Marie France Cohen wanted to say MERCI to life, MERCI to the talents and to the designers who made this success possible. It is this success which makes their generosity possible.

In 2013, Marie-France Cohen passed on the torch

The current Merci team has kept up the commitment and the founders’ original dream by contributing year on year to the foundation.

Bauhaus is a movement of art and design that has influenced, created and set a precedent for such a huge amount of incredible design since its founding in 1919.

Its style and ideas can be seen in homeware, furniture, pattern design, prints, and interiors throughout the decades and is very recognisable.

‘The Staatliches Bauhaus, commonly known as the Bauhaus, was a German art school operational from 1919 to 1933 that combined crafts and the fine arts, and was famous for the approach to design that it publicized and taught. The Bauhaus was founded by Walter Gropius in Weimar.

Its a strong look with colour and line and can be styled quite sparce or detailed and still achieve that confident Bauhaus feeling.

Create with block colour and simple pattern of the era and furniture which creates lines and forms.

Search eBay and other auctions and fairs for true pieces or head to the high street for modern versions and creations. You don’t have to look far with current high street brands to find pieces indicative of the style and design.

Keep walls and floors plain with detail in the fixtures and furniture. There’s a strong emphasis on smoked grey glass, mirrored surfaces, mat colour and keep a space light and airy. Architecture would have favoured high wide glazing and open plan living – popular and on trend in today’s building work.
