Explore Another India with IKEAs new SVARTAAN collection of soft monochrome furnishings that will bring a subtle richness to a black, white and grey interior. It’s beautiful fabrics, patterns and silhouettes of the accessories, fabrics and furniture pieces are a modern, Indian inspired collection that would sit well all together as well as used in a minimal white interior and alongside dark woods and blues.

‘With patterns inspired from urban landscapes, the SVÄRTAN collection invites us to explore a side of India that goes beyond the vivid colours usually associated with this striking country. Created in collaboration with Swedish textile designer Martin Bergström and Indian fashion students, SVÄRTAN uses only black, white and grey and consists of bed linen, textiles, paper items, rugs, bowls, glassware and metal objects. The result is a collection that offers both versatility and uniqueness to one’s home.’

Update your dining with a retro influence, with these super low priced glasses from IKEA. Each season IKEA seems to bring out a new design in the bargain range and this season’s POPPIG ones don’t fail to disappoint! Grab them quick before they sold out. We are a little excited about a newly designed range from IKEA. With colour and pattern ticking major trend boxes the new KALVIA door range (for kitchens or other storage cupboards around the home) is perfection.

As kitchen doors are standard size it’s easy to update doors and this range is a winner. Pair with pure minimal white interiors, combine with white doors or be brave and compliment with dark wood work tops and rich dark tones on the walls.

A simple and easy way to modernise and update a room is to use rugs. Bring colour and pattern into a room without it being overpowering. A great place to get well priced rugs is Ikea; simple and stylish examples ranging in size and shape, but all at great prices. Our favourite at the moment is the ROSKILDE indoor / outdoor rug in teal green and cream [ 200cm x 250cm ]. The 50s / 60s inspired design will bring interest to any room and at £59 it is a real bargain.

It’s great to find easy DIY projects that are both affordable but also effective.

Transform magazine files with paper or fabric to allow them to match your interiors perfectly.

Make your own base file from thick cardboard or head to IKEA, WHSmiths, Tiger or similar to get hold of plain files ready to cover yourself at home.

On trend fabrics or papers with geometric, metallic or other modern pattern designs, would work perfectly but explore stores like FabricRehab for gorgeous quirky fabric designs. You could head to your local charity shop or carboot and pick up shirts, pillow cases or duvet covers to get patterned fabric cheap which you could use or if you’d rather use paper head to the highstreet for a huge array of patterned wrapping paper ideal to use for covering. We love Tiger for their cool Scandi patterned papers for £1 a roll or the every expanding stationery department at IKEA is full of great papers too at bargain prices.

We found tutorials to help your DIY at HelloAerie and CreativeInChicago.

And when your taste or interiors change you can easily update the covering to match!

home: favourite thing [ IKEA rocking chair ]

This week we look at a new piece in the IKEA range and it’s an immediate favourite.

The new GRONADAL chair is a modern take on the traditional woven rattan rocking chair.

As with the nature of a hand woven piece – every chair is one of a kind. The structure is built from beautiful natural materials – ash and rattan.

The design is modern and light weight and would look perfect in a cool minimal Scandi-influenced designed home.

£145

The designer says;
The idea behind GRÖNADAL rocking chair was to make a rocking chair that joins different materials and expressions in unexpected ways. Rattan and ash are vibrant natural materials that age beautifully, and create an interesting contrast to the powder-coated steel. The seat and back are hand-woven using traditional techniques, while the light shape brings modern Scandinavian design to mind. Every part is made with love and care – which I hope you’ll feel when using it.
