Head to John Lewis for a new look for the home. If you love bright colours, we’ve collated our favourite current pieces currently in-store and online.

A colourful look is great with a retro twist. Stick with hues that are similar shades of a few bright colours, with turquoise, burnt orange and red for a midcentury twist. Keep sofas, armchairs or other main furniture pieces in statement plain bright colours and opt for patterns in home accessories. Look for quirky additions like the John Lewis ‘On Air‘ light box and mix fun patterns like geometric and block printing in curtains, throws and cushions.

The prints are 140cm x 69cm and come ready with a hanging baton.

There’s a gorgeous colour effect to bring into your home – ombre.

This beautiful colour haze can be introduced to a current colour scheme if you match the colour.

To create the ombre look pick one or two pieces eg. Cushions and curtains, in an ombre pattern fabric and then colour the rest of the interior in block colours of shades of the ombre tone.

If you’re feeling bold use ombre for a wall paper – a strong look – then collate other homewares in the same colour – this rich look would look great if using one of the popular jewel tones; currently an on trend colour palette that’s across homeware stores on the high street and online.

We’ve picked our favourite four pieces currently in the sale (see main picture). Influences from around the world, travels to exotic places, exploring far and wide – bring them all into home styling for the ‘traveller’ trend. Mixing block printed patterns with woven textures, baskets and ornaments that could have been picked up from the little streets of Marrakesh or the markets of Delhi, unique pieces that embrace another culture or way of life – all come together to create a rich interior.

This year if you want to be bold then embrace the trend of clashing colours, patterns, textiles… it’s all about being brave with mixing sizes of pattern, tones of colour and creating a powerful, eclectic feel.

There is a certain compatibility but it feels very ‘carefully’ thrown together. Keep colours rich and break up the pattern with plain bold and bright pieces of furniture, but mix geometric patterned curtains with floral wall paper or mix a striped throw over a intricate print sofa.

So you’ll need to buy a frame but finding a cool piece of art work for just a fiver is an incredible find. Hunting through the new home products at House of Fraser we find this gorgeous wrapping paper (3 metres for £5) that is so perfect it needs to be framed. Make a statement – find a great big frame (try the largest size in Ribba frame from Ikea or head to Desenio and pick one of their skinny profile frames) and cut the paper to size.

The pattern, the colour – it’s all on trend and would be perfect as a focus piece of art in a lounge or bedroom.

To ensure the paper stays smooth and flat, hunt out your local picture framers and ask them to ‘dry mount’ the paper to a board (this can cost around £20 for a 60×80 size piece)

We are a little in love with this new collection available at TwentyTwentyOne and picked this serving tray as our favourite piece. The collection pays homage to the brilliance of chair design in the last century, including designers like Eames and Wegner. The homeware pieces designed by Ella Dora collate the iconic designs from photographic imagery.

They say;

Created in collaboration with twentytwentyone, Ella Doran’s new collection sees the designer’s trademark eye for colour and pattern applied to iconic chair designs of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.

The new twentytwentyone collection of homewares are decorated with a design created from images of chairs from twentytwentyone’s archive, captured by photographer Mark Whitfield and portraying a unique and dynamic selection of designs dating from the 1930s to the present day.

Remarkable for their formal and technological variety, the chairs featured offer a snapshot of the ingenuity and creativity that has been applied to the design of this essential piece of domestic furniture.

The chairs featured include designs by Alvar Aalto, Robin Day, Charles and Ray Eames, Arne Jacobsen, Jasper Morrison, George Nelson, Verner Panton and Hans Wegner – amongst others.

A must for design enthusiasts as well as those who appreciate colour and pattern, the twentytwentyone collection includes mugs, coasters and placemats alongside trays.

The twentytwentyone collection tray is available in round (with black background) or rectangular (with white background) designs.

Ella Doran trays are made out of single sheets of the finest Scandinavian birch wood, sourced for its fine grain and exceptional width. They have no joins and are coated with hard-wearing melamine, making them durable and dishwasher safe, as well as pleasant to look at and handle.
