First we saw Sainsburys bring us trend led homeware at great prices, now we see Tesco joining in. Tesco has been offering home furnishings for a while, but their new brand called Fox & Ivy gives us something a little bit different.

There is a strong art deco theme running through the collection featuring a lot of copper, gold, pattern and cut glass. With small accessories including tableware, vases and frames as well as soft furnishings, you will be sure to find something you love.

We don’t often feature kids stores, but thought it was about time we did, especially as one of us has just welcomed a new member to her family.

We came across thismodernlife.co.uk and fell in love. Full of monochrome and pattern, the gorgeous designs of lighting, soft furnishings and accessories will compliment any room.

Launched in 2011 as The Modern Baby by Suzanne & Danny, this online store as grown and evolved as their family has, searching out products that will bring fun and joy to your home.

‘We combine modern, retro and vintage inspired items. We are passionate about supporting other small businesses, and aim to continually increase our stock of eco friendly products. We genuinely love what we do here, and we want you to be excited by our expanding range of home wares and decor – we have lots of plans for the future!’

Monochrome is as popular as ever with high street stores and designers still loving the simplicity, easy coordination and extensive pattern options to create crisp modern interiors.

Whether you go for an even mix of the tones or go stronger on either black or white, it’s an easy colour palette to work with.

As dark interiors are so on trend we love the look of styling heavily black with highlights of white in framing, fabrics and ceramics. Black walls can make a fantastic backdrop for white accessories to really stand out. Keep the look modern with only occasional pattern and stick mainly to plain black or white in accessories and fabrics. For wall decor choose illustrative prints, linear designs, typography or black and white photography. Head to Desenio, Gayle Mansfield or A Room in my House for prints to suit the look.

It is always exciting when a new brand hits the high street, intrigued to see how they are going to stand out from the rest. Well ARKET is the name, and it already has a good head start, coming from the H&M family.

With H&M Home doing so well at the moment with well designed, well made pieces at great prices its the perfect time to introduce the new brand.

Regent St store

The online range is well put together, if a little limited. You will though find some gorgeous items from kitchenware to vases to soft furnishings. Our advice is to head to the flagship store on Regent St, London. Here you will get the full ARKET experience. A stripped back, simple collection which is sustainable, durable and timeless.

‘A modern-day market that offers essential products for men, women, children and the home, ARKET stores also include a café based on the New Nordic Food Manifesto. ARKET’s mission is to democratise quality through widely accessible, well-made, durable products, designed to be used and loved for a long time’

Give your home ‘curve appeal’, soften those edges, bring circular and rounded patterns and silhouettes into an interior to create a calm feel and modern design look.

Introduce the circular design in fabrics, wallpapers and other patterned soft furnishings, or try curves in furniture – rounded tables, soft cornered shelving, and moulded smooth plastic furniture.

Look for inspiration from midcentury interiors and 1960s styling but give it a modern look by minimising too many bright colours and not clashing too many patterns. Furniture in plywood and plastic are always strong for curved silhouettes. Head to print stores like King & Mcgaw and Seventy Tree for extra details in your styling by introducing prints with circle patterns and colours that match your scheme.

OUR PHILOSOPHY OF JOY It’s often the little things in life that bring the most happiness : an unexpected bunch of flowers, a compliment from an old friend, a beautiful scrap of fabric found at the bottom of a drawer…What makes you happy is as individual to you as your fingerprint. We believe that your home should bring you happiness and you should feel free to create the home that inspires you, motivates you and reflects you. It’s not about fashions or trends, but creating a space in which you can feel pure joy.
