This week there are bargains galore leading up to and including Friday – thanks to us borrowing the American idea of a one off huge sale day ‘Black Friday’ – which seems to have grown to a week and even a fortnight with some brands.

It’s not the nicest invention for small brands who can’t compete with big brands on discounts and lose custom, but also leaves brands who have huge discounts with little or no profit – but it without a doubt for the consumer a day to grab a bargain. However it’s only a bargain if you actually needed it in the first place.

Electronics and appliances are the best products to take advantage of on such a day and our NICE PRICE find is this Kenwood Stand Mixer with a huge discount at Amazon

If it’s got a hook on the back if it hang it! That’s the basic rule to follow, with wall decor taking on a new style.

We all love a picture wall, framed prints and photos filling a space. Nothing wrong with that, although now there is so much more to display on our walls including hanging rings, macrame, baskets and planters. It’s nothing new, but a trend emerging currently is to soften a room with neutral tones and add the hanging items with materials to compliment – woods, rope, and metals with an artisan feel, almost hand crafted.

Plants play a large part, so get some baskets or metal rings and play around with faux or real succulents to create a relaxing space – ivy is great for this.

Feathers are popular, whether in art work, embroidery or hanging decor with the softeness and intricate design bringing interest and calm to a space.

Whatever you decide, the choice is out there. A great place to start is online marketplaces Trouva and Amara.

It’s almost just a month away and if you’re busy planning gifts and festive nights out, don’t forgot about the decorating and it can be simple and low cost to create effect displays, decorations and centre pieces with items sourced from around the home, foraged from your local park or handy bits picked up from a local craft store.

From around the home find old jam jars, cardboard, string, old baubles, even an old dried up sponge can be useful.

Foraging free bits from out and about is also great – local woodlands having an abundance of conifers, holly, pine cones, twigs, branches and more.

Then from local craft stores (or online) choose items including metallic spray, glitter, pva glue and soft wire.

With these items you can create unique decorations using imagery from Pinterest for inspiration.

Use PVA and glitter to create a Christmas feel to branches of conifer tree, by pasting on the glue and sprinkling over the glitter; and create a long garland for the mantle piece by tying the branches together with wire.

Spray jars with metallic spray and tie gold or silver round to make festive little vases for winter flora and twigs. Cluster various sizes together to make a centre piece for the table.

Cut and stick cardboard into cone shapes, coat in PVA glue and wind sparkly twine or string round, ensuring not to leave any gaps to produce modern, simple statement Christmas trees. Again these would look great in varied sizes and clustered together.

Using old baubles in shades of the same colour and modelling wire with an old sponge as an oasis, poke in each bauble on a wire stick to make a gorgeous dome of baubles – another great centre piece. Or go extravagant (slightly more complex) and create an entire sphere which could be hung from the ceiling!

Head to Pinterest and explore for an abundance of creative ideas!
