The last year has seen a massive increase in greenery in our homes, not only in painted walls and furniture, but also the increase in indoor plants [ faux and real ] spread throughout a room. Layer them up to create texture and shade.

Green is a calming colour and not only do leaf and plant prints bring the outside in, they also create interest and focal points. The plants themselves do the same.

Last year we saw green combined with millennial pink and this continues, although the tone has changed slightly and is more of a berry colour…think pale raspberry.

Work with these shades together through accessories with either the green or pink taking the walls.

This year has seen an array of colour in the home including yellow, blue, berry red, green and pink.

Sometimes a combination of colours seems so random but somehow works and this time round its green & pink. They have had their moment as stand alone accent colours, but now try and mix the two and witness the gorgeous result.

Pale, moss, apple, olive, whatever the shade of green, there is a pink to compliment. Paler shades of pink can look great next to richer greens.

Add some metalics like gold and brass to bring a lux feel, in accessories and chair legs. There are no rules to colour, it’s a very personal choice. We can only inspire and share what we are loving right now, and this colour combination is one of the best.

Following on from the beginning of this year Art deco inspired interiors are still big. Introducing this 1920s look into your home will bring glamour and opulence, wether a small corner or a whole room.

You can hint at this trend or go full on, but be careful not to over indulge as you don’t want it to look themed or staged. This look focuses mainly on two key areas, pattern and furniture, with bold gold designs set against black and rich blue backgrounds on wallpapers and art.

The furniture comes in the form of drinks trolleys and statement armchairs. A good place to start is with a classic round trolley with marble shelves, a design that mixes straight lines and circles, very much echoing the strong print designs of the Art Deco era.

Combine this with a statement chair – velvet is a must – with brass or gold legs and you will have the perfect start to the look. Keep the walls dark to create more drama with dark green, blues and of course black.

Accessories to consider would be classic angled mirrors and perhaps a quirky lamp influenced by the 1920s. As well as this you could continue the feel with soft furnishings like a fringed pillow [ pictured ].

Green is a colour associated with nature, harmony, safety and has a restorative effect. Olive green specifically is traditional colour of peace which is strong evidence that it’s a wonderful colour to use in the home. It’s a great colour to use on a big scale whether it’s wall paint, tiling or a large rug but what is particularly effective is layering up shades of a green and building a strong on trend look with the throws, sofas, cushions, paint on walls – all being in that olive tone. There are various shades of olive so the look can have a tonal variance. 

Create texture by using knits, weaves and patterns in soft furnishings all in green and use pewter, warm or dark wood and black in other furniture with metallic highlights in small homewares.

At the start of next year we will be seeing a lot of cool blues, greens, pearl white and pale grey, with print and pattern taking inspiration from the sea. Bring comfort and serenity into a room with soft accents of colour and lots of soft furnishings like throws, sheepskin and rugs.

A strong black and white pattern on furniture and cushions work perfectly against the blue, whether on a feature wall or furniture. Carefully choose the pieces to carry the bold colour, something like an armchair or bookcase in a living room or perhaps dining chairs in a kitchen. Layer different tones of blue and green bringing depth to your space.
Accessories like vases are a good place to start with some gorgeous pearlized finishes available in stores, in aqua greens and rich indigos. Bring in metalics like copper and zinc to add more interest to a room.
