Seek time away from the busy hectic technical world we daily live in, by creating a natural sanctuary in your own home with the Urban Wild trend.

This trend heals and soothes. Interiors that embrace this trend are as close to getting outdoors and enjoying the wild as you can get living in the big city.

Combine natural colours and textures. In furniture, floors and walls use woods, aged stone, polished stone, wicker and metal to give a natural but industrial edge. For soft furnishings seek out leather, knit, cashmere, linen and even velvet. Combine soft and hard materials like goat hide for seating with metal structures for the bases, and layer up furs and fluffiness in rugs against polished grey slate flooring.

For walls choose soft natural chalky tones to keep the look soft and blended. Craig & Rose give a great insight to using chalky paints and Annie Sloan has a great range of colours.

home: trend [ tiles ]

The use of tiles are storming interior design this year. It’s about thinking outside the box with both designs, patterns but also where to use tiles.

Not just for the bathroom walls or a hallway floor, but bring a cool design feature to a bedroom with a tiled back drop to a bed, to a lounge with a feature wall or even for function use on hallway walls to help with the marks and wear from heavy traffic through this busy room.

Explore high street stores like Topstiles, Habitat, Homebase and B&Q ; and online retailers including Zazous and The London Tile Co for affordable tiles. Mix patterned tiles with plain, square with oblong and play with size and shape with hexagon shaped tiles, large scale tiles and mosaics.

We found great inspirational imagery  from House & Garden and some gorgeous ideas from Grand Designs

You can also explore the vinyl tile market with modern brands including Zazous and Amtico producing up to date designs in vinyl that is hard wearing, easy to lay and with very competitive pricing compared to porcelain or ceramic tiles.

Be bold with pattern or play safe with neutral tones and then over lay with rugs to bring pattern and interest to an interior.

Tiles are hard wearing and functional. Use instead of carpet or wall paper as a great alternative.

Bringing together all the tones of green with every accessory singing about the plant world and all its beauty, the botany trend embraces the delicacy of leaves, stems and fauna, the lushness of the natural world and the fresh feel that plants both real and in image bring to an interior of a room.

There are many stores with fabric prints, wall art and home accessories with leaf print designs, most popular currently are fern, cheese plant and palm leaves.

Head to HM, Southwood Stores, IKEA, Sainburys and many other online and high street stores for great selections of bontany inspired wares. This May, Habitat just brought Henry Holland on board for a collection #henryforhabitat which shouts loudly with leaf prints in textiles and upholstery.

Across stores there are cushions, curtains, chairs, throws, lampshades and ceramics using leaf and botany illustrations, which can be brought together, layer and mix to create a real greenhouse freshness to a room. Cluster pictures of leaves or flower studies to make a gallery style display, mix leaf patterned cushions with plain green tone fabrics mixed inbetween and use glassware and ceramics in various greens as another texture. To break up the greens use oak, walnut or whites to add contrast. Make the impact strong by not using any other vibrant colours.

Most importantly go wild with indoor planting. We love Botany in East London to get your plant fix – with their array of cacti, planting, foliage and more. Keep your eye on special offers on high street garden centre sections of DIY stores for discounts and special offer days – a great way to get big indoor planting at great prices.

Use wall hangers in woods, concretes and metals, and macrame hangers to fill a room with real greenery; make bold statements with big architectural leaf plants in corners of rooms; and cluster varying size cacti on coffee tables or shelves.

Bring serenity and a beautiful calm to your interiors with blush hues. The pink palette of this trend is a dreamy mix of shades of pink with complimentary colour additions of white, cream and beige. These hues sit well with light woods or white furniture, keeping accessories in copper, a little monochrome and of course pink to a minimal to ensure the interior is minimal and clean.

Create a Spring feel for a lounge or bedroom with this beautiful trend,  covering windows with long billowing pale pink curtains, which could look great layered up with lace nets, scatter cushions in a variety of pale pinks with the odd one with subtle pattern and opt for a couple of pink tones for the walls.

home: trend [ off the grid ]

Dulux have sought out another exciting trend. Your interiors can become clean and bright with the lines and colours of the Off-The-Grid trend.

It brings together the control of chaos  with the framework of lines, wire grid work and monochrome clarity, with a playful ‘off the grid’ freedom using splashes of colour with a fun bright tonal palette. Essentially this trend brings together the on-trend colours of coral, teal, copper and yellow with the crisp linear simplicity of the monochrome trend.

Search for grid pattern wall papers ( try Ferm Living ), big geometric patterns on soft furnishings from brands including Next, Zazzle and John Lewis, and colourful bold items of furniture that will sit against a monochrome backdrop. Head to Made for a huge selection of bright stand alone pieces of furniture at great prices.

‘We need boundaries in which to live, even if we seek to rebel against them, freedom is only understandable within the context of a framework’ Dulux

It’s that time of year when the outdoors  starts to come into full colour, and our homes should be no exception.
Spring Living brings a fresh and uplifting feel to a home, with the emphasis on colour – bright colour!
Vivid tones of blue, yellow, red and green clash with each other, paired with digital floral patterns.

Give your room a vibrant look with a statement sofa in lemon yellow, lay a multi-coloured printed rug or arrange a selection of glass bottles and vases in varying colours to hint at this trend. Go crazy or keep it subtle, it’s up to you.
Furniture should be sleek and simple, either in one bright colour or in light tones of wood like bamboo or white melamine, adding pops of colour through accessories.

Bring together all the pattern, colour and vibrancy of a Brazilian carnival in your home. With major sporting events heading to Brazil this year, homeware is taken inspiration from the strong ‘more is more’ attitude of the colourful community.

Brazilian modern, mixes prints and patterns with well thought out clashing flair. Stimulate the senses combining patterns of flora, fauna, tribal, vintage and stripes, sitting patterns of different scale together, and miss matching woods and textures.

Seek guidance from the colour wheel to ensure colours, although contrasting with each other, still are harmonious and complimentary.

home: made [ printing ceramics ]

Sometimes home accessories just need a personal element. The current trend for getting creative with ceramics is a fun, easy way to create pieces for your own home, for a party or for a gift that stands out for being individual and personal.

There’s a variety of art mediums to use to get illustrations, text or any design onto ceramics or glassware. Transfer or decal paper can be printed on and used, sharpie markers can be used to draw, write and design straight on plates or cups and ceramic paint is also available.

Apartment Therapy offer a great tutorial for using printable transfer paper and you can buy printable decal paper from Crafty Computer Paper. If you want inspiration for using sharpies head to A Beautiful Mess.

Take inspiration from current trends in botanical drawings, typography and geometric designs. For extra depth to the design, layering your designs over already patterned plates can look brilliant too. Search eBay, charity shops and carboot sales for vintage crockery to use or head to IKEA for good quality plain modern ceramics.

Ceramics can be designed with names or pictures tailored for an event, a seasonal time of year or even with a selection of great motivational quotes or words.

If creativity doesn’t come naturally printing images onto transfer paper means you don’t actually have to draw or write a design yourself. And if you just can’t face a little DIY have a peak at Etsy and buy straight from the creative folk making it already, like the talented Ivonne Ellen who’s gorgeous pieces including vodka tea cups and animal illustrated plates are just incredible. Prices from £35.
