This trend heals and soothes. Interiors that embrace this trend are as close to getting outdoors and enjoying the wild as you can get living in the big city.

Combine natural colours and textures. In furniture, floors and walls use woods, aged stone, polished stone, wicker and metal to give a natural but industrial edge. For soft furnishings seek out leather, knit, cashmere, linen and even velvet. Combine soft and hard materials like goat hide for seating with metal structures for the bases, and layer up furs and fluffiness in rugs against polished grey slate flooring.

We have seen stripes before in interiors with the monochrome and nautical trends. This time around we take a more subtle approach to this look with narrow stripes on ceramics, texture in wallpapers and structured furniture.

When accessorising a room pick out simple pieces with a minimal feel – block coloured vases and pin stripe ceramics / varying stripes on soft furnishings such as cushions and rugs. The popular colour choice will always be black and white but if you want to introduce other colours keep it relatively neutral with beiges and greys, and even bring metalic tones of gold and bronze.

Bringing stripes onto a wall can be a brave decision, but if you limit it to one wall and use just two colours of similar tone you can create a real focal point, but it doesn’t need to dominate the room. Pale colours like moss green and powder pink work great. Another idea of how to bring this trend into your home is to use two or three narrow stripes in a hallway or running up stairs. This brings interest to areas which otherwise might be quite plain. Stick to one colour and run them the full length of a wall or stairscase.

When it comes to furniture don’t think you need to go out and and buy heavily striped units or chairs. One statement armchair can really help bring this trend into a living room, although keep the rest of the furniture neutral. Alternatively find pieces that give the illusion of stripes. The use of tiles are storming interior design this year. It’s about thinking outside the box with both designs, patterns but also where to use tiles.

Not just for the bathroom walls or a hallway floor, but bring a cool design feature to a bedroom with a tiled back drop to a bed, to a lounge with a feature wall or even for function use on hallway walls to help with the marks and wear from heavy traffic through this busy room.

Explore high street stores like Topstiles, Habitat, Homebase and B&Q ; and online retailers including Zazous and The London Tile Co for affordable tiles. Mix patterned tiles with plain, square with oblong and play with size and shape with hexagon shaped tiles, large scale tiles and mosaics.

You can also explore the vinyl tile market with modern brands including Zazous and Amtico producing up to date designs in vinyl that is hard wearing, easy to lay and with very competitive pricing compared to porcelain or ceramic tiles.

Be bold with pattern or play safe with neutral tones and then over lay with rugs to bring pattern and interest to an interior.

Tiles are hard wearing and functional. Use instead of carpet or wall paper as a great alternative.

This summer the tropical emphasis is less on foliage and plants and more on fruit and strong graphic pattern.

Vibrant fruit is key for this trend: watermelon, pineapple and strawberries create playful imagery and pattern within soft furnishings and wall art. There is almost a childlike feel, with cartoon style illustration and candy colours.

There is no need to go over the top with this trend as you can pick selected pieces to achieve the look.
Choose a bold framed print for the wall or a couple of bright patterned cushions to jazz up a sofa or chair [ hm.com has some great choices this season ]. Alternatively pick some fruit inspired ornaments in brass or gold to bring interest and fun to a shelf or table. The pineapple has been the most popular this year so far, in the form of lighting bases, storage jars, candles and vases to name a few. Accent colours to think about are light tones of pink, blue, yellow and peach, and the best wall colour has to be a neutral backdrop of white.
The great thing about this trend is that it easily transfers into the garden with lots of outdoor eating items such as cups, plates, napkins and table cloths available [ head to H&M and Tiger ].
So it’s simple, think desert island, exotic fruits and tropical birds and whatever the weather you will have a little bit of paradise in your home.

Bringing together all the tones of green with every accessory singing about the plant world and all its beauty, the botany trend embraces the delicacy of leaves, stems and fauna, the lushness of the natural world and the fresh feel that plants both real and in image bring to an interior of a room.
