We are already fans of Mini Moderns and when we discovered a new product in their range we had to feature it.
These window films are a great idea as an alternative to blinds or plain frosting, using some of their existing wallpaper designs.
‘We are excited to be able to offer some of our most popular wallpaper designs as easy to install window films – produced in collaboration with our friends at The Window Film Company‘
Available in 3 sizes starting from £55 – visit minimoderns.com to see the collection.
With a little reinterpretation of the strength of wildness of the 1970s this trend is a contemporary take on the clashing patterns, natural textiles, pattern mixing of the original look.
Bring together the organic feel of natural homewares including wicker, macrame, wood, jute and brick with the richness of burnt oranges, purples and brown. Use fabrics like velvets in sofas, weaves for walk hangings, hides and fluffy afghans in rugs and cushions and mix with earthy tones and metallics in the lighting, ceramics and sculptures.
It’s with the wall and floor covering that this trend really gains strength. Introduce wood panelling effect walls, real exposed stone walls, textured giant wall hangings of rich colour themes and the key to this trend – lots of indoor planting. Use great house plants with super architectural leaves and layer up with small hanging plants in plant hangers and also wooden and woven planters.
New favourite brand to the home interiors market is the cool Scandi-monochrome-minimally styled Go Aesthetic with their small well curated range of tableware, soft furnishings and home accessories.
‘…UK based online store focusing on great contemporary design and style. We stock a whole selection of independent designers, including Fine Little Day, Ester & Erik, Buddy & Bear, Coco Lapine, and many more.’
Monochrome fans will be well provided for with the variety of black and white patterned and grey tone items. Every trend box is ticked with designs in marble, patterns of geometric, repeat print and the hand-painted look, plus gorgeous prints of the natural world and storage solutions for kids and adults.
Definitely a new brand to keep an eye on and they already have a great little sale section to grab some of their great homewares at reduced prices!
Another great trend for spring/summer is Exotic. A bright and vibrant trend full of print and texture. The main elements will come from the soft furnishings – floral and heavily patterned cushions, throws and rugs. Pile up cushions for depth on sofas and beds, with a statement rug as a focus in the middle of the room.
Accessories like bowls, vases and statement lighting help pull this look together. [ Check out West Elm ]
Wooden furniture, especially bamboo sit in this eastern influenced trend. Low units and tables work best in medium and dark woods.
Colours to consider are green, orange and purple with accents of gold and bronze, with texture coming from woven baskets and ceramics.
For a more unconventional idea, a more quirky design idea, we’ve looked into wow-factor ideas for staircases that go further than carpet or plain wood.
A great idea if you have spare tester pots of wood paint or off cuts of wallpaper – there are an abundance of examples across the net, especially Pinterest, for brilliant designs for your staircase using either paint or paper.
Your hallway is important design statement about the rest of the home, being it is the first room visitors see – so why not make a bold look?
We looked around and were inspired by the many ideas for bright colour choices, clashing patterns, blending pantones, using typography, saying something about the rest of the home, all giving a great feel and welcome to introduce ‘your home’. Colours and pattern can be used to liven up a space or brighten a hallway or even each tread could tell a story!

We found some great inspiring features from Brit&Co, Country Living and a how-to from DIYDoctor.
The important thing to start with is a well prepped set of stairs. It’s essential to sand down to a smooth finish, removing any nails, sharp points and excess old paint, and give a good clean to ensure a good surface to work on. Treads should be primed next, to give a good layer for the chosen paint to go on to. Priming can also help even if using wallpaper as it can help to make a smoother surface under the paper. It is key to apply a few thin layers, fully dried in between to create a solid, long lasting finish with paint and with wallpaper the same with clear varnish.
Look online for inspiration, and as it’s a small area – know that it’ll be easy to change in the future if you fancy a different look!
Miss Print at John Lewis / bringing the outdoors in
Not that we don’t appreciate a painted wall and the ease of changing colour, but recently wallpaper has just grown in choice with incredible options of style and look for any room.
Technology has helped us by bringing in paste-the-wall paper instead of paste-the-paper, which allows us all to have a go at hanging wallpaper with much more ease.
To pin point a favourite would be hard but we’ve rounded up groups of our favourite designs and found some of the best stores to head to.
Make a statement with a bold design. For a wow factor, especially effective with nature and floral designs, cover all walls and then push the look further with more strong patterns in the soft furnishings. This look can be softened, instead, by using minimal accessories, clean line furniture and lots of white.
Bold patterns can also be effective on a solo wall as a feature wall and then when styling the room pick one or two colours to follow through in the choice of soft furnishings.
Baltic Shop / Graham & Browne
Fun and colourful designs are great for a children’s bedroom and can also be both educative, when the designs involve words, pictures and numbers, and interactive, with designs that involve stories, colouring in and games. Visit Graham & Browne and Baltic Shop for interactive options.
For a grown up, strong look, it is currently a key trend to go dark in interiors and contrary to belief it actually brightens a room. Contrast with white ceilings, light floors and sits well with dark woods and accessories in monochrome and metallics.
A constant favourite is monochrome. Easy to style and regularly update with black and white accessories as well as new on trend colours like copper and also 80s brights, monochrome allows flexibility and never fails to look fresh and stylish. Monochrome sits well with walnut, white or wire furniture.

Wallpaper is definitely a modern look and needs to be considered a great way to bring pattern and strong design to interior design. And it isn’t to be discounted, thinking its a hassle to change as realistically it’s just a strip and re-paper if desired. Patterned designs can be great at covering imperfect walls (unlike unforgiving paint) and with new methods of hanging there’s very little mess and fuss!
Major player in the affordable design-led retail homeware market, Tiger produces trend aware home accessories season after season, coupled with innovative design and at remarkably low prices [ go in for one thing, come out with ten ! ]
Their new season range doesn’t fail to disappoint with a colour palette of pastels mints and corals, copper, monochrome and lovely geomatic and ethic inspired patterns.
Let’s step back in time and indulge ourselves in the ’80s, a decade of bold colour and print.
Perspex plays a major role, with neon furniture including chairs and tables. Add to this accessories such as light fittings, trays and wall hooks.
If the clashing colours aren’t for you, opt for something in clear plastic or white and get the colour and bold print from soft furnishings, like cushions and throws. [ The prints can be as crazy as you like, as can the colours. ]
This trend is fun and shouldn’t be taken too seriously, ideal for a second living space or spare bedroom if it’s too much in a main room.
Alternatively get the look with one or two key pieces of furniture or a few accessories, and work with paint to inject a strong colour onto the walls.
It’s that time of year when the outdoors starts to come into full colour, and our homes should be no exception.
Spring Living brings a fresh and uplifting feel to a home, with the emphasis on colour – bright colour!
Vivid tones of blue, yellow, red and green clash with each other, paired with digital floral patterns.
Give your room a vibrant look with a statement sofa in lemon yellow, lay a multi-coloured printed rug or arrange a selection of glass bottles and vases in varying colours to hint at this trend. Go crazy or keep it subtle, it’s up to you.
Furniture should be sleek and simple, either in one bright colour or in light tones of wood like bamboo or white melamine, adding pops of colour through accessories.
